happier with my purchase....And I envy anyone who finds Cocteau Twins singles at their local =
Wal-Mart stores; $17 copies of Bryan Adams' "Waking Up the Neighbors"
are about the most non-mainstream recordings you'll find at Wal-Marts in
the Tampa Bay area. Then again, at least that gives me yet another

give 'em up too often. Also, consider the utility value. You'll probably
play this CD much more than you would some lesser band's CD, so you're

Good point. Given some thought, I'd have to say I wouldn't be

Thanks - the only Cocteau disc I was ever willing to part with was the
"Conversation Series" Interview Disc - someone gave me $100.00 for it. I
wouldn't sell "Bluebeard" or any of their rare CD's even at that price. The
conversation disc was not their music, and I was able to tape the contents
should I ever be inclined to listen again. Since I'm not the completionist
type (one copy of each song will do quite nicely, thank you), it's wasn't a
big decision. Not like the interview benefits from the CD format or anything.

Hi Doug and Everyone! I'm surprised by your "fact", so I'm going to nitpick over terminology.
I have a feeling that you think "b-side" is a derogatory term.
But, what's the difference between "exclusive cuts" & "b-sides"? The terminology (cut, single, b-side, EP, LP, album) we still use is no
longer exact because of the downfall of vinyl (there is no a- or b-side of
a cd single). But, even on CD, I would call "Echoes in a Shallow Bay" an EP, and
"Bluebeard" a single. So the other tracks on "Bluebeard" are b-sides. This said, COCTEAU TWINS' B-SIDES ARE THEIR BEST WORK!!

Examples? "Bluebeard" and "Evangeline" - the titles of these CD singles does
not make reference to or cover the two extra, exclusive cuts contained on
both. The extra cuts would be considered "b-sides". Like "Echoes In A Shallow
Bay", those discs are also considered EP's because they fall short of being a
full album, but offer more than a traditional single containing two cuts (an
"A" and a "B" side cut). The difference with "Echoes" is that none of the
songs get individual focus - the title covers all of the tracks, not just one
featured track. To me, the term b-side has a slight negative connotation. It used to be a
song that didn't make the album cut - an outtake. So when I say CT doesn't
make b-sides, that's just saying that I think all of the songs have equal
merit. There are no throwaways. Doug

this i will accept, although i would like to point out to you that the
negative connotations of the term "b-side" come from the 70's and 80's, when
they were throwaway tunes. listen to old Motwon singles -- you had 2 good
tunes on one 7" piece of vinyl. the differnece then usually tended to be, a-

publication). I see 'Bluebeard' for sale on a semi-regular basis for about

Luck single in the streets, but I have never even seen the Bluebeard and
Evangeline singles. Is this just my particular experience? I would love

se. Usually, cd singles are pressed (maybe 'burned' is a better word)
once and that's it. When an album is in print (like a book) the masters
are held by the record company and they will re-press the album if sales
warrant. Singles usually don't sell enough for second pressings, so
they don't bother. Elton John's "Candle In The Wind" is a good example
of a multi-pressing single. So usually, by the time you actually first
see a single in a store, it's already "out of print". How ever many
copies are pressed/burned and released, that's all there is.
So, what your question REALLY is:
What singles are still available as new unwrapped releases? There are
lots of copies of Iceblink Luck available still because it was released
domestically. Bluebeard and Evangeline were not, hence fewer copies.
Same goes for the Tishbite and Violaine singles, although I think there
were more copies of all four, than there were of the 4CC singles.
'Snow' was a small pressing as well, maybe no more than 5,000 copies -
that's why it's so rare. Supply and demand. It also justifies the high
prices being demanded for second hand copies of these hard-to-find
singles. I just have a feeling, though... somewhere in Omfalooga,
Oklahoma or West Fargo, North Dakota is a small music store with a copy
of "Snow". Still in the wrapper. Makes me shiver just a little....

i'm not holding a gun to anyone's head! as for the bluebeard single...it
contains 3 other tracks which are NOT available on the FCC album, those
tracks being: three swept, ice-pulse and the acoustic version of bluebeard!

It's true that despite vinyl's downfall we have still been
using the old terms (especially us old school collectors!) to identify
those additional tracks. While true it's easier to refer to them as
B-sides, it does'nt truly apply anymore--as Cds can only be utilized
from one side and not both as a vinyl record would have. I think
the term I see in use more often than not now is "Non-LP" track--meaning
that these songs, while certainly not throwaways, outtakes or anything
remotely negative are just tracks without an album to call "home". I
always personally look forward to the Non-Lp tracks as they go towards
extending the pleasure of listening to certain time period in a band's
career. They can often surprise and show you sides to an artist or band
that probably was not reflected in the "home" LP.

quality of the track and which ones they feel best represent their current
style, fits in with the rest of the work. This means their Non-LP tracks
are always interesting! This makes me crave everything ever recorded by them! However, I understand
that they pretty much release everything in some form, don't they?
Oh, I can think of something people may not have heard: the the short bits
of music inbetween "Rilkean Heart" and "Half-Gifts" in the video.
Bootleg CD makers: Those tunes, and the "Fruitopia" song should be on your

dif juz, the wolfgang press, colourbox and throwing muses. pretty cool
stuff with very cool package design.

well i've gotten quite few bids for the bluebeard,loney is an
eyesore,otherness,and twinlights package but a few have said that they
would rather bid on each item seperatly. my original idea was to make it
a package deal bidding on bluebeard and the video with the two other eps
thrown in as a bonus(that way if you already had them, i thought they
would make great gifts this xmas for someone)....but since it seems that
a lot of you want to bid on one or the other..i guess that's the way it

Welcome to the mailing list devoted to discussion of the Cocteau Twins.
Enclosed in this mail is some very useful information that you will
undoubtably need at some point during your stay here. Please don't delete
this message. This list has been around since the Fall of 1995. It was originally
started at the University of Indiana. Due primarily to the exposure it
got through the official website, Treasure(), it
quickly grew and became an important alternate forum for discussion of the
music(past and present), the band, side projects, tours, fan experiences,
how to find rarities, making new friends, etc. If it's related to Cocteau
Twins(or any of the members of the band) then it's usually discussed
here...often before anywhere else. The list has gone through several
transitions since it first began. It now has over 300 members worldwide.
Volume for this list has ranged from very high to very low. You may see as
many as fifty plus messages a day during record release and touring
periods. On the other side of the spectrum, you may see only a couple of
messages a day during the off periods. The average seems to be about ten,
however. If you don't want to have your inbox filled with all of these as
they are individually posted to the list, then there is a digest form that
is distributed every 24 hours at 10 pm US Pacific time. Details on how to
enable that command, as well as several others, will be outlined in a
separate message you receive from the listserv.
There are some basic rules and guidelines(aside from general netiquette)
for this list that should be considered at all times. First of all, respect
your fellow list members. Flaming is completely unacceptable and won't be
tolerated. If you don't agree with something someone has to say, feel free
to express your opinions, but do it in a constructive way. Most people
enjoy reading a good debate. English is the language of choice on this
list, but there are undoubtably some here who are fluent in other languages
too. While the occasional non-English post may pop up, it should be
remembered that they will most likely serve no importance for the majority
of list members. When you are replying to a message that was sent to you
via the list, the program is set up to send your message back to the list.
Take a minute to decide if what you are replying to is intended for the
entire list or just the individual who originally posted. If it's only for
the person who originally posted, then you will need to readdress within
your email program before you send it out.
Following a thread on the list can become very confusing if you don't use
correct subject headers when posting a message. If you are replying to the
list, make sure your subject header states the topic of your message. It's
very easy for a thread to change course and become a totally different
conversation. Likewise, if you are posting something that is unrelated to
the Cocteau Twins, then you should always put this before your actual
subject: NON CT: This is not to encourage off-topic posts but rather give
you an acceptable means of doing so if you feel it's warranted.
If you are going to go on vacation or plan to be away from your email
account for a considerable length of time, it's highly recommended that you
suspend the list mail. This doesn't unsubscribe you from the list, it only
turns off your mail delivery until you reset it. If you don't take this
precaution and your inbox fills up, then you will start bouncing mail off
the listserv...and that's not cool. To suspend mail send the following

understand the difference between the two, but fortunately it is not
complicated. The LISTSERV address is like a FAX number that connects you
to a machine, whereas the list address is like a normal voice line
connecting you to a person. If you make a mistake and dial the FAX number
when you wanted to talk to someone on the phone, you will quickly realize
that you used the wrong number and call again. No harm will have been
done. If on the other hand you accidentally make your FAX call someone's
voice line, the person receiving the call will be inconvenienced,
especially if your FAX then re-dials every 5 minutes. The fact that most
people will eventually connect the FAX machine to the voice line to allow
the FAX to go through and make the calls stop does not mean that you
should continue to send FAXes to the voice number. People would just get
mad at you. It works pretty much the same way with mailing lists, with
the difference that you are calling hundreds or thousands of people at
the same time, and consequently you can expect a lot of people to get
upset if you consistently send commands to the list address.
You may leave the list at any time by sending a "SIGNOFF COCTEAU-L"
command to LISTSERV@WEBNT.CKS.COM You can also tell LISTSERV how you want
it to confirm the receipt of messages you send to the list. If you do not
trust the system, send a "SET COCTEAU-L REPRO" command and LISTSERV will
send you a copy of your own messages, so that you can see that the
message was distributed and did not get damaged on the way. After a while
you may find that this is getting annoying, especially if your mail
program does not tell you that the message is from you when it informs
you that new mail has arrived from COCTEAU-L. If you send a "SET
COCTEAU-L ACK NOREPRO" command, LISTSERV will mail you a short
acknowledgement instead, which will look different in your mailbox
directory. With most mail programs you will know immediately that this is
an acknowledgement you can read later. Finally, you can turn off
acknowledgements completely with "SET COCTEAU-L NOACK NOREPRO".

That would be nice to have available to members of the CT list copies of
Cocteau Twins videos that aren't being marketed by the band.

Simon has spoken of a video compilation and a B-Side compilation being in the
works. Getting these things from the drawing board to fruition is no easy task
considering the legalities involved, but I think both of these things will be
addressed.

I can't believe it. I let one of my co-workers borrower 'Snow' to
listen to. She was wanting to listen to some Christmas music and then
she said, "Oh, I forgot, all you have is the Cocteau Twins!" I told her
about 'Snow', gave her the disc, and I almost had a heart-attack when
she walked off with it because that is the only copy I have and it took
me almost 5 years to locate.
She listened to it and said she thought it was nice...
NICE!!!!!!! Oh well, I guess I will have to realize one day or another
that brilliant, genius, etc., will not be in some people's vocabulary
when it comes to the Twins. And now for your amusement...
