Subject: Rare stuff

Dear All,

Whilst out shopping at my local record stores I came across the

following:

Voilane 12" $8.98 (Mod Lang Recs., University Ave, Berkeley, CA, Tel:

510 486 1882)

Voilane CD2 CDS $9.99 (Rasputins, Telegraph Ave, Berkeley, CA, USA)

Live In London CD $11.99 (Rasputins, ...)

Milk & Kisses CD(Japanese pressing) $24.98 (Rasputins, ...)

I bought a copy of "Live In London" (there were 2) and the sound

quality isn't bad. I have a tape from a different show on the same

tour which is worse. I guess I can't complain for $11.99! The other

stuff I already have so I didn't get it. I'm not not interested in

ripping other fans off, just sharing the info.

Anyway these stores have these things in stock. Mod Lang does mail

order.

Can anyone help me out with "live in London". If it's a bootleg why

can I buy it in a regular music store?

This is just a note to remind everyone to turn off your list mail when you

are going to be away from your email account for an extended period of

time. If you are on several mailing lists then this is very important

because your mailbox will bounce every message back off the listserv

addresses once it fills up. I just reset 14 user accounts on this list to

receive mail again. If this applies to you then you will also have a

generic message in your box from the listserv regarding this matter.

I really hate to turn off anyone's mail but I have no choice when I start

getting bounced messages in my box. It's very important for everyone to

take the above precautions. If I turn off your mail when your box is full

then you won't know because the automatic message sent to you regarding

this will also bounce off your box. Turning off your mail doesn't

unsubscribe you from the list either. If you miss any postings you can

always go back and view the notebooks. The commands page on the official

site has directions on how to do this as well as turning off your mail.

Anyone who hasn't visited this page should do so. There are several other

commands available which allow you to configure your account to your ideal.

On a more CT related note:

Some of you have probably seen the information on Pandora's Box posted by

Sean about RPM records and the Craig Armstrong release. I can also highly

recommend RPM as a mail order option. They are just down the road from me

and I've done business there many times. Here's a snip from their new

releases page:

Armstrong, Craig- Space Between Us (ltd ed) / Founding member of Texas,

whose song writing credits include work for Massive attack, U2 and Madonna.

Mainly instrumental CD includes vocals by Paul Buchanan (Blue Nile) and Liz

Frasier (Cocteau Twins). Packaged in a limited edition 24 pg folded card

booklet in a clear PVC wallet..........$32.99

Here's their URL: http://rpmrecords.com

No, but there is a Curve song called "test" on Volume 17 which contains

CT's "Touch Upon Touch," and in my opinion is the best song of their

Courtney, no doubt many other people have answered this question, but

just becuase I too will answer it. :) Okay, now TTouch Upon Touch is not

on

any other CD. It is a special song that was taken by Volume magazine,

(like how they have another version of Circling Girl, on Volume fifteen)

Well Touch Upon Touch originally came out in Volume 17 and later in a dew

drops. That's probably how you have it. In anycase, yes it was played on

the M&K tour. It was the song no body knew about and also at the time, it

was titled "green." It's kind of funny becuase, when I went to see them in

LA this was the song that people were most quiet about. I have a copy of

the Video that mender is making a CD, I think Sh'e calling it live gifts,

well yeah I have the video and when they did the single for the mermaid

song, the name baffles me, I'm also too lazy to turn around and look it up

(its the second song) so...yeah when this was done in the 1990 tour,

everyone was also quite, o-well that was a long story for nothing.

hope that answers it. :)

steve

P.S, The mermaid song is the second on the ICe BLink Luck single, that's

the one I am refering too.

eeek, I totally can't see the midunderstanding... sorrry I guess I should

clear myself up. WhatI was talking about was how in both crowds, where

the twins play a song that nobody has had a chance to hear yet, the corwds

became silent, unlike when they did the wax and wane song, where the crowd

sang with liz. The song I was refering to that had this same reaction was

the second song off of the Ice Blink Luck single, it is called, Misake The

Mizan. None of their music is bad in my points of view.

I like this one a lot. It's ambient lo-fi electronic dub with Liz doing some very pretty harmonies.

BTW, I just got the Winter Guest soundtrack with the Liz track on it. I am surprised at how nasal she sounds, especially towards the end, but it's very sweet.

hello,

i usually sit in the corner here and listen and lurk and give my two cents

from time to time. i just have a comment about the 'medicine: crow

soundtrack'. i bought their cd on the strength of that one song 'time baby

3' and was very disappointed that the only song that the CT contributed

their sound in.

the song 'time baby 3' is a wonderful song and yes you can hear liz's

vocal contribution as well as robin's guitar contribution. the rest of the

songs on the cd are not much like the flowing grooves you hear in 'time

baby 3' but are rather harsh/raw compared to that one song. if you _really_

want to check out 'medicines' cd i'd first check in the used cd section

before shelling out 18.99 (i think that's the ungodly sum that i paid) for

the 6 track recording entitled 'sounds of medicine'. your money may be much

better spent buying 'the crow' soundtrack(features: the cure(yay:^), jane

siberry, my life with the thrill kill cult, NIN, rollins band, among other

notables). and you can probably find it in the used bin as well...

Fellow listies,

As some of you may know, we've been having technical difficulties with the

list of late. I believe the problem has been fixed so everything should be

back to normal.

Every so often we get a few people who decide they want to leave the list

but have forgotten how to do this. I've decided to post a monthly

administrative note reminding everyone of the basic list commands as well

as any new information that is relevant.

It is possible to invoke a command that will append a subject header to

each message you receive from the list. This would be beneficial to some

of you who want to either filter your messages from the list into a

separate mail folder or just know which messages come from the list. If

you turn this feature on all your messages from the list will have this in

It has been reported to me that someone from the cocteau or the impure list

has leaked out that i am using a publicly accessable mail server, which

lead to the mail server being used as a spamming machine. As such, I am

already running the listservs under the hood so to speak, so if i get any

more heat for running the programs, then I will be forced to shut down the

lists. Please respect the use of these resources, otherwise the lists will

be looking for a new home...

A general question for list members:

Have any of you on the list made any videos or films based on Cocteau

Twins songs?

Been inspired by one in a film/video project?

If so, I'd like to hear about it and your experiences.

The reason I'm interested is that I'm a film student and I'm mulling

over a couple of different video projects inspired and influenced by

the Cocteau Twin's music. I'm especially interested in hearing about

any experimental, non-narrative, non-linear projects (though I don't

turn my nose up at more conventional stuff either. ;-)

Firstly, I don't think they have the same lettering at the top of each page.

Secondly, all their logos are custom hand-lettered.

I'm a relatively recent addition to this list. I'm surprised more people

aren't circulating messages about how sad it is that the Cocteau Twins may

be breaking up. I almost get the feeling people are too depressed to even

talk about it.

I tried to post a copy of Simon Raymonde's message from their web page on

this list, but I don't think it went through, because I didn't get a copy of

my own message. So here it is again. Does anyone want to offer odds on them

breaking up based on this statement? I'd put it at about 50-50...

Simon Raymonde:

At this moment it would be foolish to deny that there is some uncertainty

as

to the future of this group. The record we were making has been abandoned,

so there are no immediate plans for any releases. While it is unlikely that

these difficulties will be resolved, there is some hope that this record, a

record, from this period will surface at some point. The label 'bella union'

is flourishing, and there is no end to the differing projects that the three

of us will be involved in, resulting in hopefully many more records than

before. Perhaps there is a feeling that this is a rather premature end to

the group, but i would rather leave it to others to commentate, commiserate,

analyse, and dissect the whys and wherefores. I have no intention of going

into the personal nature of these conflicts, but would like to say that all

three of us would be nowhere without the dedication and commitment that you

all show. Of course many of you will feel unsatisfied by much of what i have

said, but this is not rocket science. this group is a very emotive force,

and you must take into consideration how strongly we all feel about this.

there will be more cocteau twins records etc to come out over the next few

years.4AD are planning a compilation;Mercury probably aren't, but well you

never know! Robin and I both have some very exciting things on the go; we

are also talking about doing a record together very soon; but for the moment

i shall finish by saying that perhaps one day things will settle down,

enabling us to move forward, but at this precise moment, you should

understand that I am not in a position to give any more information. thanks

everyone.simonx

my Dad and I were having a nice wander on the proper side of the road when

we decided to stop for a bite, and went to a small coffee shop/diner kind

of place in southern scotland. We found, with glee, that we were offered

a bowl of porridge with a bit o scotch in it! wonderful wonderful, you

could NEVER see this in 'merica!

Imagine a small cafe trying to get a liquor license so that it could serve

a yummy, warm bowl of porridge. geez. Porridge abuse could run rampant!

you're right... it has been very quiet of late. I think a lot of the

not talking about it is a form of denial, isn't that the first stage...

denial, followed by anger and then acceptance? I can't get angry about

this, there is just too much beautiful music from them to feel

resentful. As for acceptance, I think since we all knew it was coming

it was already accepted. Does any of this make sense, or am I just

to hear what's been going on of late. this is really a hell of a time to

join the list, but regardless of CT's future, as a fan of everything

they've done, i cannot turn my back.

i found out about the band thru a friend of mine in college in Staten

Island, NY, and have bought their stuff and turned all my good friends

on to it. my favourite album is "Treasure", but that's only if i had to

choose ONE. i've been a fan for about 10 years.

one thing you all may find interesting, especially Dennis, is that i HAVE

seen an actual Cocteau Twins video on TV. it was "Pink Orange Red", and

i caught it on the canadien music channel, MuchMusic. i was not home at

the time and could not record it, but to this day i wonder if this was

not some grandiose hallucination on my part. i couldn't believe it.

i don't know about anyone else, but i'm with the Cocteau Twins for the

duration - and beyond....i'm sure there isn't one of you that could

easily forget all the good times you've had with Cocteau Twins music

scintillating in the background....

I'm sending this on a lark in hopes that it will reach most of the

difficulties with the listserv which have resulted in partial distribution

of each post to the entire list. Neither Jack or I can figure out the

exact problem right now but we're working on it. If there's anyone on the

list who is either a Unix guru or just knows a lot about mailing lists,

please email me. I'd like to get the situation resolved as soon as

possible.

Hopefully many of you are enjoying your video by now. All in all it was a

very successful list project. As soon as we get things back to normal

maybe we can start another one. I'm not sure how many of you are musicians

but the mailing list for The Sundays has just put together a tribute CD of

cover versions by listies. I thought that was pretty cool.

Cover versions by the listies is a great idea!

I've got some of the recording equipment, an effects unit and a pro'

keyboard. Now where do I find someone who sings like Liz and plays like

Robin.....

Actually my brother is the musical director of a medieval and renaissance

choir - that could be an extremely interesting cover! Twenty voices to

arrange.... I could do it in Latin so nobody could understand what is being

sung.

I agree. The only way I've been able to keep up with what Liz is doing is

by reading what people post on this list. Now it seems like everyone has

left. Where is everyone???

Another question:

Is the "History" section of the Twins page ever going to get caught up?

The last year that was covered was 1988 and that was added a LONG time ago.

she guest sung on? I've never even heard that she had done anything else! We

should send them an email about it!!

well, actually, i would be most most most interested in a REMIX album.

somebody mentioned this idea about a year ago, of all the fans with decent

soundcards mixingg something up. the Twins music is so groovey and mellow

that you could mix some really cool ambient stuff out of it!

Well my Bella Union order finally came last night, & I'm utterly

delighted and pleased with myself. I got Treasure and the Moon and the

Melodies. Treasure of course I'd heard before but I only had it on tape

- but M&M is all new to me, other than the song Sea Swallow Me which I

knew from my Live in London concert disk. I must say I like the live

version of SSM better

        BUT

All in all, I think M & M is totally, exquisitely, supremely

gorgeous, voluptuous, and enchanting. My buddy Dylan who listened to it

with me as soon as I opened the package said "It's my new favorite"

before we were even all the way through it. It's definitely in the same

vein as Victorialand, even more mellow, very soothing, ambient, and

haunting. I put it in a shuffle with some Aphex Twin to sleep to & it

was an excellent combination. Soporific, dreamy, really nice music. I

have to say I think it's cool that they only had Liz on there part of the

time. Don't get me wrong, I love Liz Fraser, but it's just nice for

variety, and sometimes the voice draws my attention away from the music

which is equally worthy of enjoyment.

"Eyes are Mosaics" and "The Ghost Has No Home" are two of my

favorites. BUt I've only listened a few times so far, so a more in depth

analysis will have to wait. ANyway, I'm a happy camper.

Okay, some of you have probably already seen it, but according to a post on

'Pandora's Box', there *will* be a Liz track on the new Massive Attack

album due out in the next few months. I read/heard something to the effect

back in the Fall but I couldn't place it for sure. Anyway, according to

someone who lives in the UK, the track is called 'Teardrop'. So we've got

more good stuff on the way. If anyone is unfamiliar with Massive Attack I

can highly recommend either of their previous albums: 'Blue Lines'(1991)

and 'Protection'(1994). The earlier had a couple of tracks featured in the

movie 'Sliver' and the latter was home to the outstanding title track

'Protection' which features Tracy Thorn(of EBTG fame) on lead vocals. I've

heard that Tracy will also appear on the new album too so it should be all

that.

I didn't get any error messages for the list today so that may be a good

sign...but then I hate to speak to soon! Uggh!
