Horrible Horrible? Yikes. I kinda like that one. Another one that I

think is really good is 'Wildfire' by Hamish(Fuel) and Robin. It can also

be found on the elusive Volume 5 compilation...along with 'Frosty' and a

collaboration between Robin and Gordon Sharp called 'MacBeth'(sp?).

Happy New Year everyone.

Dear Listees,

In all the holiday madness, I have ended up with an extra copy of Faye

Wong's new album "Wong Fei" with "Yu Lok Cheung (Amusement Park)" the song

featuring Simon and Robin written by the Twins and "Wai Leem

(Reminiscence)", the cover version of "Rilkean Heart." This is the

standard import (not the limited edition version with the 3-D motion

cover of Faye being pushed up against a chair with her hands tied by some

guy -- can anyone out there explain this cover to me?). I'll let it go

for $15 (this includes postage). I paid a bit more for it so this is

actually a deal. If anyone is interested, send me personal mail.

This is not Cocteau Twins related, but it is somewhat 4ad related...

I have Colourbox's "Colourbox" (CAD508CD) cd and I hate it! I found it at a

pawn shop. Does anyone else want to trade me something (anything!) for it? I

really don't care what you'd want to trade (a cd you hate, a sticker, a

carrot...) since not even used record stores around here want it and it's a

shame to let it rot in my collection if someone else wants it. I don't

understand what happened because I really like their song on Lonely Is An

Eyesore. The *exact* same thing happened with Clan of Xymox too...

:-(

Oh, speaking of Lonely, anyone who wants it but doesn't want to pay full price

for the import - Blockbuster music is selling their imports at 50% off. I

guess this applies to the Cocteau ep's as well.

I sound like a big commercial. Or anti-commercial, depending on how you look

at it.

Sorry for the late answer, but i was in vacations in the Erzgebirge (near

Dresden).

I live in Berlin and yes, 15 percent are out of work here... In Berlin and of

cause all the other parts of Germany, that was before the 3th october 1990

the GDR (many factorys closed)... (a few areas with 50 percent unemployed

people!)

In South-Germany (there are all the big factories and companies) are only 6

percent without a job...

So the political situation here is really very complicated.

Maybe is that not interesting enough for the CNN...

> >in any case, hey, congratulations on having a job.

Thanx. I have my actually job since 1994 ...

> bummer that you

> >gotta work

> >nine hours a day, but i pretty much work those hours too!

So it is in Germany. Who has work, there must work many many hours and all the

other people are on the streets... But unfortunately is the money the same

(the extra hours are not for extra money)...

> What I want to know is: if unemployment is so high in Germany, how come I

> run into so many Germans on extended travels in remote (for Germans)

> places? Are there many independently wealthy folk there? Do Germans still

> get tons of vacation time per year? (Perhaps due to lack of work there?)

I have at my job 30 holidays in a year.

But i am not rich. The wages in the part of Germany, that was to 1990 the GDR,

are lower than in the other areas of Germany. For example, my wages at time in a

month (after all the (high) taxes) are around 1800 DM. That are around 1000 US$.

But if i work in Bayern (Bavaria) or other southern parts of Germany, then are

my wages the double or more! But all the prices in the shops are the same...

The second fact is: too have children in Germany is very expensive, Germany is

not friendly for children. And i have two daughters..

(more from me and my family - with pictures - at:

http://home.t-online.de/home/eichfeld )

Or contact me privatly at: eichfeld@t-online.de

I think, the Germany that travels so far away are no unemployers. Ask they, from

where they come. I think, the most are from West- and South-Germany. There

living the rich people. I have a job and also unfortunately not the money for

travelling in the world. Only the vacationdays are enough.

But enough with all that, this is a CT-List...

I forgot that while the site is in English, the HKPop Faye Wong titles

are all in Chinese!

First, visit this site for an excellent discography (in English!) with

pictures of the album covers:

http://www.scar.utoronto.ca/~94cheunq/fayedisc.html#20

be sure to click on the thumbnails so that you get the "big pictures"!

THEN, go check out http://www.hkpop.com and you'll be better

prepared to make your selections.

At the discography site, look for the following albums and song

titles:

Random Thinking: track 1: Random Thinking (cover of Bluebeard)

track 5: Know Oneself And Each Other (cover

of

Know Who You Are At Every

Age)

Impatience: track 4: Fracture (version of Touch Upon Touch)

track 8: Repressing Happiness (version of Tranquil

Eye)

Faye Wong: track 4: Amusement Park (written by CT)

track 8: Reminicience (cover of Rilkean Heart)

*note that the middle album pic (the Siouxsie

pose)

is the one to look for once you get to HKPop!

If you're a real completist, you may also be interested in the following:

Faye Wong Live In Concert: Disc 2, Track 1: Know Oneself And

Each Other (live)

                                                  Disc 2, Track 2: Random

Thinking

(live)

One Person, Two Roles: Track 4: Know Oneself And Each Other

                                                                  (Europe

Mix)

Many of the songs at the discography site are also sampled, in part

(or in full!), so that you can "try before you buy." (I think the only one

that cheung doesn't have a sample of is Know Oneself And Each

Other). While you're there, check out the English translations of the

lyrics for these songs! They're a hoot! Like the titles, they have little

or nothing to do with the English versions, but you'll be amazed to

hear how much Faye's versions resembles the CT's versions!

BTW, Faye Wong also covers Tori Amos, The Sundays, The Police,

and The Cranberries, among numerous others, on her albums.

Happy Hunting!

Andre, this 18 track M&K promo is a Canada only release called "(A Taste

of) Milk & Kisses". All tracks are regular album cuts, from Garlands to

M&K. I've never heard of a French Tishbite, I was under the impression

that both Tish 1 & 2 were UK releases. Maybe you do have something rare

there.

I don't think it's so odd that your kids have rather ecclectic tastes...I

used to be *very* into hardcore, bands like the DK's, MDC, too many to

Geez...I hardly *ever* visit Seekers, so I didn't even think that would

be a place to look for "top ten" lists.

Anyway, I've been procrastinating cause I've *still* not been able to

purchase 3 cds that might make my top ten, those being the new Faye Wong

on EMI, the Billy MacKenzie posthumous cd "Beyond the Sun" (which Simon

produced), and Velour 100's "Of Color Bright" (this band is "kin" to His

Name Is Alive, one of my fave bands.)

Having said that, I can list a top ten for '97 that is subject to change

(and not necessarily in order, except for the first 2)...

Seely - Seconds

Lida Husik - Fly Stereophonic

Laika - Sounds of the Satellites

The Changelings - Terra Firma

Delerium - Karma

Hal w/Gillian Anderson - Extremis (4 trak single)

Simon Raymonde - Blame Someone Else

Spearhead - Chocolate Supa Highway

Belle & Sebastian - If You're Feeling Sinister

Jenifer Smith -Code Mesa

(obviously this list ain't very "this-listy"!)

Happy New Year, ya'll!

The Red Tape version of "Pitch the Baby" is an 'alternate version'.

It's a little more *beat heavy*, and maybe just a little peppy-er than

Both my blue and yellow Tishbite singles say they were made in France.

They're in a digipack. I looked on the Violaine singles and they don't even

say where they were made. But pretty much all of my Cocteau imports come from

the UK, yet say they were made in france. Infact - explain this one to me -

on one part of the package of The Moon and the Melodies, it says it's made in

the UK. On another area (the actual CD itself) says it was made in france.

On my copy of Tiny Dynamine/Echoes in a Shallow Bay, it does the same thing,

only the countries are the UK and Germany. My guess is that they are

manufactured in one country and marketed in another.

I really hate those cardboard digipacks, though. And the UK slimline cases.

The cardboard bends and wears down, and the slimline cases crack! They must

be much cheaper to manufacture than the sturdier jewelcases, otherwise why

would someone put their music in such crappy packaging? I like things to

LAST!

I think you misunderstood when I said life is strange... I didn't mean

it's odd that they can enjoy CT and the DK etc. (they're also into

classical music), I meant it's strange how life repeats itself. What I

was into 15-20 years ago, for the most part, they are becoming obsessed

with now.

Is it heredity or brainwashing?

oops, got cut off on the last message. As I was saying, the digipacks are

more environmentally correct, plus some pople prefer them because the artwork

is self-contained. Jewel Cases are not really sturdy either, as they crack

and the hinges break when dropped, etc. But I agree, I hate them too, in

fact, I hate them both!

Yes, I understand about that environmental stuff, but digipacks also lack CD

booklets,

which to me are very important. I get so dissapointed when I open a fresh

new CD

and there's little or no information, pictures, lyrics, artwork,

whathaveyou. Also (and

is this my imagination) some of my digipak imports have a slightly different

size

than my U.S. CDs. Not enough to notice just looking at them, but it sure

makes a

difference when I go to put them into my CD holder! OTOH, I actually don't

mind

the slimcase for singles, as long as a band puts out an even number of

different

singles so that I can neatly fit 2 CD slimline singles in one CD holder

slot!

Greggie,

Welcome to the list. Perhaps you would be willing to discourse a little

on the times you've seen the Cocteau Twins perform live, for those

unfortunate souls like myself who have never seen them? We would like to

hear your impressions comparatively of the three separate times you saw

them. Which tours? Which was your favorite? I suspect that they are

basically a "studio band" (like The Cure) and that it might be difficult

to reproduce some of their rich sonic tapestries live on stage, but

that's only guesswork as I haven't seen them yet. Anything you'd like

to say I'd be interested to hear. Much obliged, Joseph Anthony.

YES.

I'm not sure about cico buff, I've got to listen again . . . but whales

tails has always made me dizzy, Liz's "chorus" that gets faster and

faster and dissolves like sugar into the air. And I wear your ring is an

AMAZING song. I would say it's my favorite from HOLV but I like almost

every song on HOLV so much I can't say that.

i just started listening to the cocteau twins about two years ago and i

instantly feel in love with them. Blue Bell Knoll is one of my favorite

albums. the loop in cico bluff is amazing. they are deffinitely god-like.

did you ever notice that when their at their best the whole atmosphere of the

room just swirls around, and at other times their music just kind of seeps out

of your speakers, like inscense. i think one of the best descriptions i've

ever read about them was that they are like musical wallpaper. is it true

they did a concert on line last year? if it is true, is it still available to

view? if any one knows, please let me know.

My favorite Twins tracks:

Athol-Brose - it's like practicing scales! each line higher and higher.

Carolyn's Fingers - I've never heard a vocal like this before. It's

otherworldly and spine-tingling. Somewhat similar to Aikea-Guinea but

more complex, shrill, intricate, incredibly controlled and focused, like

fairy music, as I said before

The Itchy Glowbo Blow - The ending of this song is astoundingly beautiful

- the last minute or thirty seconds, the instrumental part. It's like

Liz pushes the music up and up until it just explodes and she doesn't

even sing any more, just lets the music carry everything away

Frou frou foxes in midsummer fires - I like the way this song is in three

parts, like a triptych. I'm doing an independent contract this quarter

and part of my contract is to paint Cocteau Twins songs, and I'm going to

paint this one, in three parts. One of my very favorites. It's as

uplifting as anything I've ever heard or seen. I do think Pur and

Treasure Hiding both kind of follow the quiet-loud format of this song,

but I don't think the Twins can really be accused of "ripping off"

themselves!

Cherry coloured funk - this song played extremely loud is better than

anything else, ever

Fifty-fifty Clown - My friend calls this her "flying song." Dreamlike

and beautiful beyond words. I overlooked it at first, now I'm in love

with it. Especially the line Liz sings that sounds like "oceans are in

the shape emotions are"

I Wear Your Ring - Fun as hell to sing along with, as someone else

mentioned, and one of Liz's greatest self-harmonizing moments

Ivo - What can I say? Beauteous. The Twins are unequalled at creating

albums with a consistent mood and a first track to lead you in

and a last track to usher you out with the music still running in your

mind after it fades away

Amelia - very simple and very haunting

In Our Angelhood - I like the fast pace. Sounds like Liz sings "we turn

to angel fish / in our angelhood / now our heart's sunnyish / like he

said it would" but who knows?

When Mama Was Moth - Like a spell or incantation, and a perfect

album-opener. One of my favorite song titles too

Musette and Drums - Incredible guitar outro, everything about this song

is thunder and lightning, stormlike, overpowering and irresistible

Sighs Smell of Farewell - prime example of the way they build to an

orgasmic finale

Squeeze-Wax - another orgasmic finale song

Summerhead - gorgeous melody, awesome jarring guitar backdrop

The Spangle Maker - sort of dark. Another brilliant example of the Twins

method of saving the best for last and blowing your mind at the end of

the song. Unlike so much other music where you're bored by the end.

They always have a new trick to pull out of their hat. I think this is

one of Liz's greatest moments, and I absolutely love the guitar feedback

- reminds me of sounds whales make and makes me think of being deep deep in

the ocean where there's hardly any light

Hitherto - what can I say? nice

Rococo - Awesome instrumental piece

Know Who You Are At Every Age - kind of melancholy, wistful, sorrowful,

glistening and gorgeous, the way things look after a heavy rain

I could go on, but I'll spare you. The conclusion I've come to from

trying to make this list is that it's real hard for me to pinpoint my

favorite Twins songs. 80% of them are really really good.

Joseph Anthony

The last track on M&M is "ooze out and away onehow."

Now that's got to be the best song title I've ever heard.

Well... it's not really more "enviro-friendly" (paper, plastic, glue),

except that they use less packing.

My gripes with the digpak format are that the cds tend to fall out,

scratching the cd and that the "spider" that holds them in is not

replaceable if it falls apart.

Wow, I,personally, would really *enjoy* that. The thing that is some-

times difficult to me about listening to the 'Twins is that I want to sing

along--but I have no idea what the words really are. I mean, I've read

the lyrics sites for CT music and while some lyrics seem right on the

target, still others make me go "huh? there's too many syllables here

BTW, has anyone written a thread trying to decipher the lyrics woven

Hi exnihilo 01. I read your note and agree that Blue Bell Knoll is a superb

album. I don't know if they are god-like but they play music that the gods

would listen to............what else? Oh, I've listened to them a while and

luckily I joined this very interesting group of people who exchange thoughts,

cd's, videos that involve and revolve around the twins. I actually look

forward to reading everyone's thoughts daily. It would be something to put a

face to all the messages. I love the CTs but I confess I listen to other

bands as well. I'm interested in people out there who listen to bands like

the Smiths, or Lush......watch shows obsessively like Seinfeld or the X-

Files.....or can't wait to see the 49ers/greenbay nfc playoff games. I even

watch trash like Melrose Place. Does this make me a lesser person???????

Anyway, I like your thoughts with wall paper and all. I think their album

cover look like something out pf a Helen Frankenthaler

retrospective............

i think it would totally take away from the mystique of the band if the lyrics

were put in the liner notes. most of what she is singing is only emotions any

way, and some syllabic gibberish mixed with a little gaelic. well that was

before she actually started to pronunciate in more recent albums. supposedly,

and tell me if i've been misinformed, she was abused by a relative when she

was young, and these songs for her are a sort of emotional exorcism. she is

moaning in pain and laughing in sorrow. that is all part of their beauty. so

if lyric sheets were included for the songs where there actually are lyrics,

it would deffinitely lose something. they are a band full of many hidden

secrets and i think it is best if they remain that way.

besides cico bluff, some of my other favorite songs are frou frou foxes,

pandora, for phoebe still a baby, and sigh's smell of farewell.

Heya people!

I've just recently got myself a Yamaha CD recorder, and as a

service to fellow CT fans on the Cocteau Twins mailing, I'll be

happy to burn you a CUSTOMISED compilation CD of your favourite

CT tracks and/or tracks of other bands (but only if I like them).

The CDs are 74 minutes long and you're free to put in as many tracks

as you want within that time limit. If I don't have the CD with the track

you want, you'll have to lend me a copy which I'll send back along with

your compilation CD.

I'm not asking for any money for the actual burning, but you'll have to

pay for the blank CD ($4) and money for postage. Fair enough?

If you're interested, reply back by email.

This is really funny... just yesterday I was flipping through my records

and it hit me: why the hell don't record companies package CDs this way?

1. It's environmentally friendly to put the CD in a cardboard sleeve.

2. You can still include a booklet (and the booklet is less likely to get

trashed by the plastic flanges of the jewel box case).

3. It has no spider-things to break

4. It's slimmer, taking up less space in the store and at home.

5. It would probably weigh a little less (to save shipping costs).

6. And you can always put the case in a plastic sleeve if you want to

protect it (this works fine for all my records).

Whoever thought of these goofy, fragile plastic cases anyhow when records

had already set the precident? hmmm...

Perhaps you could spin-together a comp of out-of-print/rare stuff (like

(Then again, perhaps this idea will prove too popular and you will rue the

Many Cd's come this way and it's the worst way ever! It's usually promo's,

I've noticed. I just got Lisa Gerrard's promo for Duality in one of those

slipcases, Bjork's "Best Mixes" is in a slipcase like that. Many singles come

My first correspondence to the list and I am already breaking the rules -

but i cannot hear you call the cure a studio band!! Anyone who has

listened to robert belt out "faith" or "100 years" from the darkest part of

would have to agree! Go watch "show" or listen to "paris". Back in 1987 aSmith interview in which he cited ct as a favorite band and

this kinda about the twins after all bla bla bla so sorry...michael

Transcendental mood. But of course the CT are far more complex and intricate

who was also at the PA show on 11/17. i don't think i'm wrong, but i can

tell you that it was definitely not in march of that year.

I was at a Detroit show during the HOLV tour. I'm currently trying to track

down my ticket stub to confirm the exact date. The show I saw was actually

held in Ann Arbor in a small theatre ( I can't recall the name of it

though) but I believe it was the only one held in the Detroit area. The

opening act was Galaxy 500.

Cheers,

The Detroit show was actually in Ann Arbor Michigan at the Michigan Theatre.

March 29th 1990

That soundboard is definitely from the first leg of the HOLV tour. Certain

songs were only performed on that leg therefore it's easy to identify it as

a 1990 show(and not 1991). I have another bootleg that was recorded in the

Latin Quarter in Michigan on November 24, 1990 but it's not the same show.

I also have one from November 21, 1990 that was recorded in Toronto. I

think it's safe to assume that the correct date for that show is November

26...however you might try contacting Capitol records to see if they have

an old tour itinerary on file.

But that's only from the *second* leg of the HOLV tour. The Cocteau Twins

performed a series of shows starting in October, 1990 in Europe. They came

to the US and toured through the Upper East Coast, West Coast and finished

in Las Vegas in December. Due to the popularity of that tour they came

back for another more extensive US tour in the Spring of 1991 right after

leaving 4AD. The Ann Arbor show was actually on March 29, 1991. The

'Heaven or Las Vegas' album wasn't released until September 18, 1990 so

there's no way they were touring before that.

Whomever responds to this post, please post publicly. I've been

looking everywhere for a good source of DCD info and just can't

find anything decent . . .

I asked C.K. Coney the same question, and Carol's reply was:

>I have never found a good DCD email list,

>newsgroup...nada! Their website sucks too.

I am subscribed to the alt.music.enigma-dcd-etc newsgroup and

it *really* sucks. Without the 4AD website online, there's no official

site to turn to. I haven't found a BB worth keeping up with (there's

one at iMusic, but the messages are mostly the garden variety---

"I love DCD, my favorite album is / my favorite

song is . Does anyone know what language Lisa

Gerrard sings in?")

Carol wanted to know if I knew how to do a listserve/majordomo

thing, but I know nothing about that kind of stuff . . . anyone out there

with know-how interested in doing a list for DCD? Or does one

exist (in English) already that I'm not aware of?

Hello again! First of all, some impressions on CT live...

HOLV tour: I think that is the only time I saw them play to tapes. Of

course that was the first time I saw them live (imagine being a CT fan

stranded on Guam, of all places!) and it was your basic

sing-it-like-it-sounds-on-LP concert.

4CC tour: this was the one that sorta freaked me out because Liz was not

in the best of moods that night. The scat-sung Lorelei got to me,

though. So did the contact high...and, er, other stuff....

M&K tour: now you're talking! Not only did I see it with a bunch of

listies (DaGoddess, Melanie, Ponyboy, etc), and not only was I up front

for a change, but this concert was the one where Liz, Robin, Simon, et

al, put some groove into it...varied it (with Mark Clifford at the helm),

and made me have my first public eargasm (Pandora *sigh*)!!

As for favorite songs, like most of you, I've compiled a 4-volume sampler

set of which I shall publish the playlist on my website (which is almost

due for an update) soon.

Digipacks? Hate 'em. That's all.

Hmm. Well, I just pulled out my Latin Quarter boot and it's dated

11/24/90. Of course, that is very possibly inaccurate(as bootleg dates

sometimes are) but it's definitely *not* the same show as that soundboard.

Assuming Simon has his dates right then that soundboard is from the Royal

Oak Theatre on 11/24/90. That makes sense because that soundboard was

recorded at a sit-down only venue. If you listen closely you can hear Liz

say 'I'm sorry you've got to sit down...' after 'Iceblink Luck'.

That M&K show was sooo excellant. It is so nice to remember it again.

Is there any chance that someone might have recorded it? It would be a dream to

be able to hear it. I was dancing and moving the whole time(*sigh*).

Had a few of cool responses about "Sound Quality" regarding CT CD releases. It

seems other people notice this to. Seems that there might be some noticable

differences in CD and vinyl releases (US vs UK). Since I really get off on

"quality" production, it might be nice to find the best possible "sound". I

noticed differences in my tape of HOLV on the CD version I have (the capital

cheapy). I have to really tweek with my EQ controls to find the "sound" that

kicks. It is kind of cool to drive around in my truck with the tape though. It

seems I am always noticing new things when I am driving. I don't know if its the

sound separation or just the "meditation" of driving. Anyways...it is always

cool to hear things you've never noticed before. Thanks for the inciteful

response "sylvie".

Sound Quality...

You know, compared to M&K, HOLV does sound a bit flat. Maybe it has to

do with some new signal processors Robin installed? (I remember back in

the 80's there were ads for a processar called the Aphex "Aural Exciter"

:)

Actually the recording level also seems higher.

I have tested stuff out on my H-car and I loooove listening to Otherness

through my 8" subs. (okay, so I have a thing for woofers ;-)

Hi, I'm new to the list, so I thought I'd like to make myself known :)

My name is Brianna, I'm a student at the local university and I've been a

huge admirer of the CT for about two years now. I wish I'd have heard of

them sooner, but in a small town like Regina, SK Canada, finding even just

ONE copy of a CT CD is a rare serendipity. Actually, if it hadn't been for

an internet friend in San Fransisco I wouldn't have even heard of them.

Which leads me to why I am excited to be on this list finally.. there are

no people here who know what I'm talking about when I coo and gurgle over

how amazing CT's music is. I've invited people over, popped in a CD and

gone into trance while my company shifts uncomfortably, not recognizing

any sort of lyric. But this is one of the many reasons why I'm so

enchanted by it all.

I've managed to find, over the years, one copy of each of their main

albums, minus The Moon and the Melodies, plus Otherness. My first album

was Treasure (w/o Aikea-Guina/Kookaburra/Quisquose and Rococo, sadly). My

favorite albums are Blue Bell Knoll and its amazing title track,

Victorialand with its sweet, swaying lullabies, and classic Treasure. Liz's

voice is unsurpassed.

I've never attended the CT live, but it's my dream and future goal.

Perhaps I might be lucky to find out that someday they were planning to

tour Canada-even venture to the less populated, central provinces.

To a town like Regina? I *must* be dreaming! :)

Besides that, my hobbies include costume, painting/drawing/intermedia, and

faeries.

I'm looking forward to hearing everyone talk about the greatest music I've

ever known, drooling and griding my teeth in jealousy over ppl's

experiences firsthand with the CT, and sitting patiently by for any tidbit

of info that might shed some hope on my own firsthand experiences (ie,

seeing a concert!).

A bientot!

hello brianna, welcome to the list. actually i'm relatively new myself. i

also just discovered CT a couple of years ago. treasure was the first album i

bought. it is amazing. i still cannot get over pandora. after hearing this

album i fell in love. they just send you spiraling into a void of beauty. i

think everyone should listen to the twins at the end of the day. they cleanse

your soul. i have to agree with you, Blue Bell Knoll is my favorite albumn.

i love cico bluff. i think that the CT have got to be the most inspirational

group i've ever heard. since liz isn't really singing anything but emotions,

occasionally adding some words in gaelic and english, you don't really need to

listen, just feel the music. i've writen many poems and stories while

listening to them. their music is a natural aphrodisiac. it is a total

release of all feelings. besides the CT i also listen to elvis costello,

sebadoh, bob dylan, and many other varied artists. i write, as

aforementioned, and my life revolves around the arts. i know exactly what you

mean about playing the CT around others. i've put them on at parties and

either you get it or you don't. if you do they completely suck you down into

their world. i've never seen them myself, but it is at the top of my list of

bands that i would die to see, i've heard they are amazing. well gotta go.

welcome again. looking forward to hearing from you and the other listies

soon.

Well, since Liz is the baby of the family then she must be the girl in the

center and her sister must be the girl on the left. If you look

closely(and I'm sure everyone has!) at the girl in the center you will

notice a small gap between her two front teeth. Liz has that same small

gap.

Egad, I hated the production on M&K! I hardly ever listen to it for just

that reason. Especially painful are "Half-Gifts" & "Rilkean Heart" since I

love the "Twinlights" versions.

Hi Brianna. Welcome to the list of those with exquisite musical taste.

It's always surprising to me when someone hears the Twins for the first

time and doesn't come out with something like "Who IS this!!!" That was

my immediate reaction the first time I heard them, but I've had people

say "yeah, their okay" when I've played CT cuts for them. That always

baffles me, especially considering that Alanis Morissette can sell 12

million albums. Like you, I also wish that I could have seen the Twins

in concert, but don't get your hopes too high on that happening.

Hmmm...HEy yall it's steve and I heard the same, "that the band didn't

have any intentions on touring for the lst one," but I don't doubt

that

they will be back sometime in the future. I mean as far as I take things

I don't think they are breaking up, I think that sounds to harsh, I mean

for what we know that band has gone through. I take it like this, I mean

(which has been aalkedaked about before) but I mean they are a great band

(no

doubt about it) but as far as public fair goes I think they have had their

time. They will always be timeless as far as I am concerned, but I think

it is so good that they go out while they are still this great thing we

all admire as opposed to those bands that we all know should have called

it quits a long time ago. hopefully, from what I take it, I hear that

they might put a thing or two out within the next five years or so besides

the last albuma and the video copilation they are working on. If not I

know we will feel a strong influence of their now that they are woring

with a lot of people so I hear. but that's all

Thanks to everyone for the welcome!

I enjoy that CT is a Shangri-La, that's part of the attraction.

The first song I ever heard was Beatrix, and after that I wanted to hear

everything they ever made. When I realized this band had such a history I

was even more intrigued. How could the CT have been making music since the

eighties (maybe even before?) and I not hear about one single song until

1995? I heard 4AD was blamed for not advertising CT well..

I've kind of realized the far-fetchedness of ever seeing CT live, and I'm

wondering if perhaps somehow obtaining a video tape of a live performance,

or a compilation of music videos would be more within my grasp.

I've heard how the sound quality of their more recent CD's such as M&K are

the reason why they are less liked.. I find myself not listening to them

as much either but i always reasoned it was because Liz's voice seemed

different.. it would be unfortunate if M&K were CT's last album, but I

would doubt it.. i understand robin guthrie is involved in several other

projects..does anyone know if robin is still doing anything with

Chapterhouse? and i don't know how popular this might sound with some, but

I've always thought a great new twist would be mixing Liz's vocals with

some techno. Or maybe even mixing some of their old tunes- I've always

thought HOH,S&S's "Sugar Hiccup" would be great with a beat.

Also, does anyone know if Dead Can Dance's Lisa Gerrard ever got together

with Liz? Or if there was any influence traded?j/w...

I guess I'm a little behind with the what's happening in cocteauland...

First thing "Hi Briana", nice to see another Canadian out there.

Both Liz and Lisa appeared on the first 'This Mortal Coil' album (It'll

End in Tears), two songs each, although not together. Other than that

I'm not sure... although I'm not as rabid a fan as others out there.

It's amazing that a band I've loved since '84, I know so little about.

That's one of the good things about this list, I'm finally learning a

few things.

Now secondly, could someone tell me exactly what's going on with the

band? I know Robin Guthrie released a solo album and Liz had or is about

to have a new baby? (is that right or am I more confused then I

thought?) And the band IS calling it quits? Will there be a final album?

When will it be released? Why do birds suddenly appear...?

(you can forget that last one)

Can someone get me back up to speed? Thanks...

It wasn't Robin, but Simon who released a solo album called "Blame

Someone Else". Although there hasn't been any official anouncement yet,

it's fairly generally accepted that the band's next album, due to be

released in the spring, will be their last. The Liz/baby thing, I'm in

the dark on that one. Birds suddenly appear because they can fly faster

than the eye can focus in on them. :)

yeah, I think absolutely, the aural exciter plays quite a role for CT.

It can be lucious and dreamy, as, well, as we all know! It can also make

things a little less distinct, I mean, it'll put a lil veil on the sound,

and depending on how much it's used it can mush things. I think M&K is

the way it is just cause it's compressed as hell, but I like it. This is

probly why the level seems higher, too.

I think a great example of hearing the aural exciter come into common

use is the early Fleetwood Mac albums! All sorts of dreamy vox.

There's a neat box out recently made by Crane Song and I think it, too,

can add a dreamy sheen to things. Wonder if they got one of them.

I loooooove the vocals on Simon's album - migawd! - his voice is wonderful

in places, silky, breathy, intimate, and then backing off for these great

choruses. What a treat! Funny we've heard so little of it from CT, but

it's not been what they've been about I spose.

shuffling along diggin Simon today...

Simon Raymonde released a solo album ("Blame Someone Else").=20

Robin Guthrie continues to be active as a producer, but I don't believe =

he's

released anything under his own name -- though the news page

(http://www.cocteautwins.com/news.html) says a collaboration with Russell

Mills is in the works.

I don't think Liz is pregnant. Last I heard, she was recording with =

Massive

Attack.

List rumors indicate one more album come this Spring, then the lily shall

personally, i think that song should have been the opening to a film. it

would be great to see some dolly shots of cities or landscapes with that

song lilting away in the background. (also it would drive

"closed-captioners" crazy when it hit video. they wouldn't know what the

lyrics were! remember the deal with mtv NEEDING lyric sheets before playing

Hi All,

Like Brianna I'm new to the list so some background is

in order.

I first heard CT about 1985 when my sister

bought Treasure. I've never hated any music more than

that album before or since. My sister used it as a

pesky kid deterrent to keep me out of the garden when

she was sunbathing. I must have heard it about 20 times

or so before it all clicked into place and I've been hooked ever since

(and so my's sister!).

So it's a bit distressing to read the first lot of posts to find the

next album's the last and they won't be touring it. I was under the

impression that gradually they've started to enjoy playing live and I

find it hard to believe they'll split without saying goodbye.

In the last few years they've even been adding extra dates on to the

end of their tours and a couple of years ago even went to the trouble

of rescheduling a gig in Manchester after Liz's throat went wonky.

That's not the sort of behaviour you'd have expected in the reclusive

80's by any means.

So will someone please back me up on this and say

they will be back playing live.

Anyway, thank god for the net - CT fans have always been elusive round

my way (Preston, England) so this is a breath of fresh air.

Kate Bush is wonderful, isn't she? That's funny you should mention

'Wuthering Heights', that's my wifes best loved song. I just made her a

tape for the car yesterday with it on! She was starting to get a little

tired of my CT, I guess.

Another big fan of Ms. Bush is Siouxsie Sioux (my all time favourite,

well right up there with Liz... it's a tough call). She doesn't have the

vocal range or training for that matter, but the music of the Banshees

and Creatures can be beautiful and hypnotic as well as dark and

agressive. I'd love to hear what they could come up with together.

Just another dream...

I'm surprised to hear that CT would split. Is this true. It would be hard

must have been about 86 and it was wonderful. the last three or four years

I didn't listen much to CT spending my time with other music. And now when

I find back to them, they will split? That isn't fair. I hope it isn't

If the rumour holds true about this next album being the last, I think I

already have a sad picture of how my mind will listen and view the music on

it. For me it will be like losing a very dear friend. Someone that has been

with me for YEARS while I was going through my adolescence, helping me

become who and what I am today. I know this may sound a bit sappy, but I

think I will have a pretty good tearful farewell listening to it. I will

mourn for years, but hopefully (I'm sure it will be) the most beautiful

picture to remember that friend by... Any thoughts on this?

i think that, even if the cocteau twins do not tour again, that, perhaps,

they (or at least, simon) could be sweet enough to offer a sort of

"farewell" tour of september sound for all "listies". everyone could get

together, charter a flight, and we could all spend a very happy few days

wandering around london-- with the whole trip capped off by a visit to

september sound to see, firsthand, where it all happened...

Hey, there's nothing wrong in hoping or dreaming. But realistically,

whatever reasons loomed large enough for band to call it quits, are

surely big enough to keep them from doing a tour together. On the other

hand, everybody seems to be doing reunion gigs these days. Maybe after

a couple of years off they may decide to refocus on the band again.

Only time will tell.

I would also hope that if they intend to release one last album they would

do one last tour of it. But I still highly doubt they would come to

Canada, I checked the Fan Registry and there's approx. 5 ppl (canadians)

on it!! But i know there are more out there.. but like any major band

they'd know that they'd probably lose more money touring here than making

it. Silvie, your idea of going straight to London is awesome ..

EXCELLENT IDEA !

How about having the Twins do a final show somewhere like a huge estate

garden. A final show in a place where all the old friends and loyal

followers could meet and like... have a wake.

Everyone could trade a story or two and visit with their past recollections of

the band.

Then that evening all the musicians who ever played with Robin, Simon or Liz

could come and play together in one sonic assult.

Interviews and film could be shot of the whole day(s) event and packaged by

the bands marketing Corp.

A network of frequent flier miles could be set up as a pool to get the less

fortunate fans a flight to the site.

More later...

I too love Kate. Some of you Kate fans might remember a song called "Feel

it" in which Kate describe the young experience of being taken. I could see

Liz' singing that or collaborating. But, what about Kate covering a Cocteau

melody with Kate Bush lyrics...with Robin producing.

As far as The artist formerly known as Prince. I recall reading about Prince

asking the CT to collaborate around the HOLV album time and the CT not liking

the idea. However, I think that Kate Bush's music might be a different story.

It could be a powerhouse at a time when both artists have had long careers

already. What do you all think.

Having had the chance to process all of the tidbits of information I've obtained from

various sources (including Simon), I think there's more to the story than a personal

decision from the members to call it quits. Let's not forget that the music business

is just that, a business, and that there are many interests involved. I don't think

the band is being secretive about their plans in order to tease the fans. Simon

alluded to a "right way" of doing things, and I trust that he and the others know

what that is.

Simon said the new album is not finished. He thought the band was going to work on it

again, but it turned out to be a false start. That was late last week. He also said

there will be no more live shows. I have to agree with him when he says they've

produced a considerable amount of music as a group, but the fan in me would always

want to hear more. I'm a CT hog, plain n' simple.

So, that's what I know. Usually when a groups calls it quits, the fans already have

the "final" album in-hand. Fortunately, we'll have a whole new batch of songs before

reality hits. I think it's a good deal, don't you?

Wow my first letter to this thing and they somehow messed it up to look as if

sylvie had sent it. No biggie, I just wanted to get the idea out there for

everyone to ponder. I like the idea of a visit for us all to Sept. Sound in

London. That way they could get us all in one fell swoop, and the regulars on

here could meet, etc....Or a show, although that is somewhat less personal and

since people say they don't plan to tour anyway......Does anyone out there who

knows them have any comments about this whole idea? I personally would be

willing to do whatever it took to make this a reality and not my silly dream.

In some ways I think the split could be quite positive. I like hearing Liz,

Robin and Simon working in a non-cocteau context - we might even get 3 times

the musical output! I have heard that Liz has been talking to a number of

people about collaborating - so there is a future out there waiting to happen!

Its not like they are all going to become accountants or something (not that

there is anything wrong.....)

Hi,

I'm new to the list but I've been a Cocteau Twins fan since 1982 (is

it really that long?). I've had the pleasure of seeing them live three

times. I have to be honest and say the last two albums haven't been on

my turntable as much as the others so maybe it's a good idea that

they're stopping. Some bands outlive their usefulness but still keep

making records. Others have the dignity to know when to stop. Maybe

it's time for them to do something different?

I hope this isn't anathema to all you listies who got into them

recently.

For anyone interested I have a complete list of John Peel sessions,

with personnel, and transmission dates. There are probably only a few

people interested in this stuff so I don't want to send it to the

whole list, but if I get emails from more than 50 people I will post

it.

that I can't get depressed about the imminent demise of the Twins when

there is so much of their music out there to enjoy. To me the songs are

timeless and full of hidden surprises (treasures?), each time I listen

it's almost like hearing it for the first time. Now, how many bands can

say that?

Of course my opinion may not count for much as I don't own everything

to get my hands on. Now that's what I find depressing...

I'll be happy to hear the final album, & realize a farewell tour is asking

too much, given the personal/musical differences breaking up the band --

_but_ I've taken a hankering to the Last Hurrah Concert idea. Didn't the

Beatles play one last, unexpected gig atop Apple Records? Couldn't the CT

play the roof of September Sounds, for a few hardcore fans? Do they even own

the roof? I'm sure they'd pass the audition.

Quisquose is my hidden gem. It's so schizophrenic, I mean, it's like two

Actually, that was how I escaped doing karaoke over winter break...I said

I would only do it if my favorite band was on the list. Surprise, they

weren't. :) I did say if anyone ever found Cocteau karaoke they could feel

free to humiliate me into doing it, but I feel relatively safe. :)

Suffering through 2 hours of drunken, bad covers of Bob Seger and Jimmy

Buffett was more than enough for me. Hopefully I shall never return.

Actually, I -can- see Bluebeard being easily translated into karaoke.

I do know that the Artist is a big fan of the Cocteau Twins and so is Sheila E.

They both mention the Cocteau Twins as being a musical influence.

Hello there and welcome to the list!

I've been a fan for less time than you, and only seen one show, but I

have to say that I personally like their last two albums as much as any of

the others.... But I have to agree with you that sometimes it is time for a

band to stop, at least for a while, if only to generate some new ideas.

(they shouldn't stop touring though!!!)

How were you introduced to CT? I've a vague theory that if you were

introduced to CT via their earlier material, then you are less likely to enjoy

the last two albums.... maybe.

Hugs,

Alex.

Hiya,

So on the way to work today I hear an oddly familiar voice on Morning Becomes

Eclectic on KCRW here in L.A., and I'm thinking to myself, wow this girl

sounds a lot like Liz Frasier. But it sounds nothing like the Cocteau Twins

so I wait through two more songe to find out who is ripping my favorite singer

off. It is Craig or Greg Anderson, producer for Massive Attack and

orchestrator who put together the Romeo and Juliet album. He is releasing a

solo album on the same label as Massive Attack, Melancholic out of the U.K. I

may have his name wrong, but I am sure someone on this list knows exactly who

he is and will fill us in.....

Anyway the song: Similar to Massive attack with a light hip-hop beat and

strings. Best of all, crystal clear Liz Frasier singing what may be her most

"pop" performance yet. It reminded me a little of Portishead with perfect

melodies. I am killing myself for not listening more clearly, but as the song

played I kept turning it up....and up.....as close as one can get to an

intoxicating CT experience as one can get.

We have something great to look forward to!!!

Hallo Chregi,

welcome to this list.

I am from Germany and it is good to hear, that is another CT-fan in the near

here in Europe. I know, we have also a few from the UK here and one from Poland.

I also know the CTs also since 1984, from John Peels Music.

And here in Germany unfortunately also no bootlegs or promos available.

I can only help with the Bluebeard 4-Track-CD from 1994. If anyone is

interested, email me privatly, these CD is still available here.

This is actually the song that turned me on to them - I just happened to be

watching 120 Minutes and they showed "Aikea-Guinea" as a cult classic - must

have been late eighties. I went out and bought the only ct album the record

store in my area had - blue bell knoll - and fell in love. Strangely enough,

this same record store, which sells only the most popular things, a few years

later, had the cocteau box set! "Aikea-Guinea" continues to be one of my top

five favorites. Along with "Spanglemaker" "Throughout the Dark Months of

April and May" "Crushed" and "Lorelie". Oh, now I'm thinking of others...

I have to go on record here. If you feel this way then maybe YOU should

be the one to call it quits! Some of us have enjoyed the Twins' music

for a really long time, feel that it just keeps getting better, and are

sincerely bummed out by the prospect of an end to their career as a

group. Besides this, the older stuff is just as accessible to more

recent fans. It doesn't matter when you "got into them". It only matters

that you like and continue to like their music. If you don't, maybe

you'd be happier on the Bon Jovi mailing list :-)

In other news . . . I haven't seen an answer to Joseph's question about

official statements. Can it be that such a thing doesn't exist and that

all this talk about a breakup is just rumor? I for one am skeptical

about such things until I hear it from the proverbial horse's mouth.

However I do realize that there are many knowledgable members of this

list who can give us the scoop. Does anyone in such a position want to

chime in?

who's trying to get what he wants! i'm glad you approve of my video

collection but i can assure you that i don't part with it easily. i used

to practically give it away but it ended up costing me more money than it

was worth. you see, the compilation consists of 4 VHS tapes add to that

the high cost of mailing such a heavy package and it can be very pricey!

it was costing me an average of $27 dollars just for the postage, not

including the blank tapes and i was usually trading this for a single

compact disc. so as you can imagine, i was losing out....bigtime...in the

end! in order to me to trade a copy of my compilation it really must be

worth my while so i will gladly send you my want list.

just for curiousity sake....where did you hear about me? did you see my

name on simon's solo album or are you a member of the cocteau twins mailing

list? or did you just surf upon my page?

I agree wholeheartedly with what you wrote about bringing it to the boards

Fairieglo. The only problem is that I think the subject of their breakup/non-

touring status has been gone over lots in the past two weeks or more there,

and I think people are either sick of the subject or just sick at heart about

it....Not only that, but not many people have responded as willingly and as

productively as you have to the idea of a "final hurrah". I'm a little

discouraged myself from all the pooh-poohing going on about this very thread.

All I wanted to do is try to get some organization going amongst us, whether

on the board or here in the list. I still think it could be very effective if

we presented our ideas to them in a good way.

At the very least, even if we can't convince them to do a show or have a party

or whatever, then there are other , simpler(for them) things we could ask like

maybe one big appearence in the chat room altogether - the whole band.....I

don't even begin to know how feasible that really is, but that's the thing we

don't know until we try, right? I don't think its selfish at all to ask some

little farewell thing for their loyal, devoted fans - especially us on the

site supporting it. As of tonight there also is still no "official" statement

from them, but I expect at least Simon has heard about all the ruckus going on

here....

So I guess what I'm basically saying in response is : go ahead, post the baby.

see if it has any effect. If not, then one or more of us can write letters,

etc....and i know how hitler this must sound, but I really do believe that if

any of us out there want some closure, we're much more likely to get it if we

join up in the campaign for it. I can't believe that 285 or more people would

get ignored by three.

good things to all who read this far ! - DRESDENBLU

Oh dear,

It looks like I have touched a raw nerve with Mr Jackson for daring

to say that the last two albums have been less than brilliant. I was

hoping to get some healthy adult discussion on the CT list, not

knee-jerk reactions and personal insults. I 'got into them' in 1982

after seeing them on TV in England. That doesn't make me any better

than anyone else, I just happen to have been born earlier. I hope that

I can view their albums as objectively as a fan can, rather than

sticking my head in the sand, ignoring the flaws, and saying

everything is brilliant. What good is that? Any band that makes

records wants honest opinions, not fan-boy drooling.

My personal assessment is that up to HOLV, each album was a big

improvement on its predecessor both in song writing and production.

The last two have just trodden water a bit. Nowhere did I say they

were garbage. They're still a lot better than 99% of other music

around. But the CT's have set high standards by which WE must judge

them.

I think 'Twinlights' and 'Otherness' are much more interesting than

the albums because they took risks and did something different.

The CT's have a formidable back catalog. And if that's not enough,

dare I say, Mr Jackson should find some additional bands to listen to

as well and stop being so protective.

Check out Butterfly Child's "The Honeymoon Suite" for lush pop, or

Global Communications "76.14" for lush electronica, or Main's "Hz" for

lush droning, or ..... :-)

Get the picture.

I've been reading some disturbing messages here lately. I get the

impression that some of you feel that it would be BETTER if the Twins

split.

I have to go on record here. If you feel this way then maybe YOU

should

be the one to call it quits! Some of us have enjoyed the Twins' music

for a really long time, feel that it just keeps getting better, and

are

sincerely bummed out by the prospect of an end to their career as a

group. Besides this, the older stuff is just as accessible to more

recent fans. It doesn't matter when you "got into them". It only

matters

that you like and continue to like their music. If you don't, maybe

you'd be happier on the Bon Jovi mailing list :-)

In other news . . . I haven't seen an answer to Joseph's question

about

official statements. Can it be that such a thing doesn't exist and

that

all this talk about a breakup is just rumor? I for one am skeptical

about such things until I hear it from the proverbial horse's mouth.

However I do realize that there are many knowledgable members of this

list who can give us the scoop. Does anyone in such a position want

to

chime in?

Dear All,

The concencus seems to be that this is the last album,

and that it won't be toured. The best anyone seems to be hoping for is

a one-off farewell.

I don't know about you lot but seeing CT and knowing it

was the end could lead to some *over-emotional* people

around - especially me. I was bad enough when I saw them for the first

time (after a 9 year wait).

Also, considering how desperate everyone is to see it

how are you going to feel if you don't get a ticket?

Distribution over the net is fine if you're on it - but

I never realised that having access to a P.C. was the

first requirement of being a diehard fan. A one-off gig

would leave those of us (and the computer-less?) unable to attend in a

horrible situation.

Which means that really what I'm saying is after a lot

of thought it might be for the best if they release the album and go

away quietly (which seems to be exactly what they intend to do)

Unfortunate for those who never saw them, I agree - but

you won't get a true idea if the band themselves would rather not be

there. Who wants it to end with a sub-standard gig as the final

memory?

Yours,

Resigned to the worst,

Stuart

I've just got hold of a copy of Craig Armstrong's album. Liz sings on one

track called "This Love". It is wonderful. Imagine the gorgeous string

arrangements heard on recent Massive Attack albums coupled with THAT voice.

I recommend the whole album. Happy New year......

According to the 12/19/97 Addicted to Noise (www.addict.com): "Melankolic,

the label created by Massive Attack, will release Craig Armstrong's debut

album, The Space Between Us, on Feb. 24. The Scottish composer, who

arranged the strings on Massive Attack's "Protection" and has worked with

Bjork, will play piano during a performance with a 27-piece string section

on Jan. 14 in London. Both Liz Fraser (Cocteau Twins) and Paul Buchanan

(Blue Nile), who appear on the album, will perform at the event."

I guess that was yesterday. Anyone in London fortunate enough to catch

that? I guess we can look forward to two new Liz tracks with Massive

Attack's album coming out in February as well. I also heard that Liz was

going to sing the title track on the new Allen Rickman film 'The Winter's

Guest'(which stars Emma Thompson). Anyone know anything else about that?

alternative pres with that interview of the cocteau twins i don't remember the

issue or any thing but it was after the 4cc release but before the m&k

release.......In that interview robin said something about drug abuse and his

expierence with drugs, they did not go about on what drugs he did use, does

any one know what drugs they were? The reason i an curious about this is

because I think some of the work of the cocteau twins is some what drug

related in a way, but hey, what musician can honestly say they never messed

around with drugs, even in the slightest. i am not attacking robin or his work

i think all his work he has done is platinum gold.

another interisting thing was what liz said and that was she had other people

in show biz think she was on heroine because she always worn long sleeves,

when actually she said she has never done drugs and the reason she always worn

long sleeves is because she is hiding tatoos she has on her arm.DOES ANY ONE

KNOW WHAT THE TATOOS LOOK LIKE?

Methamphetamines in a big way. Robin and Liz have both been quoted as

saying that 'Head over Heels' was the product of 'speeding out of their

minds that summer'. Also, Robin was asked what inspired his music in the

early days on an MTV interview in '94. He got mildly berated for saying

'speed'. I'm pretty sure he also went through a heroin period too...and of

course copious amounts of alcohol.

As far as Liz's tattoos, well one of them was of Siouxie Sioux and I think

another of Johnny Rotten. She had them removed in '96.

I was browsing through the Addicted To Noise site(www.addict.com) and came

across an interview with the Twins ca. late 1995 that I don't recall

reading. Some of it is familiar but then some of it isn't. It may be old

news to some but here's the URL just in case. It has QT videos available

for download throughout as well as sound files of different songs. It also

has a link to Music Boulevard where you can order much of the older CD's as

well as some rare import items.

http://www.addict.com/issues/2.05/Features/Cocteau_Twins/index.html

I hooked into the site below via the above article and found this very

interesting interview/biography with the band. It has some fascinating

information on Liz's early musical influences as well as information about

her parent's, Robin's and her employment experiences in Grangemouth.

sorry, i hit send to soon....

i'm sure it's been answered, but here's what i know. robin was in rehab for

cocaine addiction. i know for a fact he has done other stuff, but i dont

know what exactly, how often, etc. once, while being interviewed on mtv, the

VJ asked him what influenced his music in the early years, and he sort of

mumbled/laughed "speed". i also know that he is very good about being clean

& sober, because having attended a few parties where all sorts of drink and

drugs were available, he took nothing. (although he did try to convince us

that he had dropped some X like we had, he was just teasing though...and maybe

trying to get into the cuddling pile, ha ha) as for liz's tatoos, i think

they were either self inflicted or done by a non professional and they looked

awful. one side said something about sex pistols or sid vicious, the other

arm said something about siouxsie, i believe siouxsie might have been spelled

wrong. this may not be entirely correct because when she showed us, it was

very quickly because she was embarrassed about it. she has since had them

removed. as for liz and drugs, her NEVER having done them is not what i've

heard, but since what i have heard is just gossip, i will leave it at that.

(oh the gossip i have on that girl....oooooh!)

Just wondering if anyone has old copies of GuitarPlayer or anyone who has

it on file (?)...

Guitar Player magazine features articles on Robin Guthrie in February,

1991 for a profile

another Introduction to Robin Guthrie in January, 1994's issue

and a regular feature in April, 1996.

I checked GuitarPlayer's back issues page on the net but found no files..

if it were possible i'd buy the back issues (except it seems the 1991

issue is sold out completely) but i thought i'd check here first

in case someone has it on text file.

thanks! :)

Whilst in the lovely USA on hol I picked up 2 Live thingies so.....

I have a spare copy of the very lovely Live In London 1986 for trade.

I would love to get my hands on another Cocteaus CD live boot in exchange

Anybody with a nice juicy Cd to trade please email me :

(don't do it to the list or you'll bore everybody...)

BTW I saw the Cocteaus many times in this period and they were just magical

even

though a lot of the live sound was on backing tape.

There was an aura about their gigs - the 4ad roster was magnificent.

Dead Can Dance the stupendously underrated Dif Juz, Wolfgang Press, wow!

Even the Pale Saints were this side of geniuses when they firsy started ....

what has gone wrong with 4ad these days?

Where i came up with that title escapes me....but it gets back to a

topic i started a few weeks back regarding a listy tape we could all put

together. I got a number of responses from people who were eager for a

copy or who motioned that i should put on certain tracks but..... nobody

offered anything to add to it! plus! nobody got the gist of

project.....did'nt want to focus on the various side projects the

Cocteaus had undertaken (be it Wolfgang Press, Bathers, Fuel, etc......)

but instead I felt it should just be oddities! Alternate versions,

rare trax, covers or remixes by the listies themselves or whatever!!!

give me some ideas here folks! Still trying to track down that Buritto

Revolution track (it had samples of Liz singing) the tracks were called

1: Song to the Siren 2: Blue Bell (anyone out there have this?)

also.....the following tracks would be cool to compile....."PERHAPS SOME

OTHER AEON (DEMO) (from the Pleasantly Surprised comp tape)........SPEAK

NO EVIL (taken from the flexi disc that came in "Vinyl"

magazine...............IN OUR ANGELHOOD (remix) (from State of Affairs

comp tape).............PEARLY DEWDROPS DROPS (DEMO) (taken from "Dreams

& Desires" comp. tape)................OTTERLEY (demo) (taken from

'electronic Soundmaker & Computer Music magazine)........ PALE CLOUDED

WHITE (from Discreet Campaigns" comp tape).................PINK ORANGE

RED (alternate version) from Womad-Talking Book Vol 3 "An Introduction

to Europe"....................and somebody out there mentioned a remixed

version of 50/50 clown? or was it "Pitch the Baby"? let's put these

together and make ourselves yet another Cocteau Twins album!!!!

They may be breaking up on us but we can at least continue to spread the

music and enjoy them for years to come.... jef-marcel

Hey everybody,

If you sent in a request for a copy of the compilation video then you

should have been contacted with payment information by now. If you haven't

been then please email me. If you just joined the list or somehow missed

out on this offer, a few of us have put together a compilation of all

available live television and promotional videos of the Cocteau Twins from

1982-1996. Total running time is 2 hours 20 minutes with much of the

material in stereo/hi-fi format. We're distributing the tapes for cost and

shipping only. If you would like a copy of this video then send an email

to me with this as the subject: CT Video Wanted. In the body of your

message give me your name and address and someone will contact you about

how to follow up.

We've put up a rather simple webpage at:

http://www2.netcom.com/~kneel95/ctuvc.html

This is a tracklisting for the video. You might want to print out a copy

of this

page. We're not mailing out a cover of any sort with the video in an

effort to keep the price at a minimum. If anyone with a little time, web

design experience and a good idea would like to work out a more elaborate

cover for printout then I'm sure it would be most appreciated by all.

I'd like to express my gratitude to Jim Berkowitz, Ken Clinger, Guy Davis,

Mike Eccles and Paul Spirito for their commitment and effort to this

project. Without them it would not have become a reality. Thanks again

guys. Hopefully some of you who already sent in your money will be

receiving your videos by the weekend.

Happy watching!

well, i'm sorry to hear that. he was very good about it at the party (june

we were thinking of burning it to CD-R. What do you guys think about that?

I know Neil has the capability to burn CD's but it might help if there

were some others who volunteered in order to ease the burden of

distribution. He and a few other people did something just like this

recently on the Lush mailing list. We could even include some of the

better quality live television like the 'Seekers' performance from The

White Room, the MTV Europe stuff from '95, the Snub-TV stuff from '91, etc.

I've also got a mint copy of 'Scream' which has some nice demos/alternate

versions as well as the cover of 'Strange Fruit' and 'My Hue and Cry'. If

someone has access to a Technics 1200 then we could get a really clean copy

of all the vinyl...

I'd like to nominate ALICE, from the Stealing Beauty soundtrack.

I'd love to have a collection of rarites on CD. Which of these

are taken from vinyl? Is there anyone on the list who has one

of those laser vinyl record players? Anyone have a copy of radio

show where Elizabeth read a poem? Anyone up for contacting the

Cocteau Twins themselves and see if they'ld share DATs? What ever

happened to the fan club release( or the fan club plan itself)?

I feel like I've posted about 387 times today...anyway, a friend(and fellow

CT fan) just called me to say that 'The Winter's Guest' soundtrack is out

now(in the US). He picked it up this afternoon. The track Liz sings on is

called 'Take Me With You'. He said it's mainly piano and voice with no

effects on her voice. He said it's very very good but then I expected that

much. :) All the record stores are closed here so I'm SOL till the AM.

Damn I wish I was in LA right now...hehe.
