Subject: new administrator and be patient
Date: Friday, October 10, 1997 4:35 AM

and now a few word from our sponsors...the reason some people are bitching
about the reactiavation of this list was that they had subscribe to it via
the web and didn't recieve anything for a long time. i've try my best to
remove those people that complain on the list, but my time is running short.
anyway stratton davis is your new list administrator and we are working on
enabling the digest mode for this list.

in addition, to keep traffic to a minimal revelance level to this list, i
highly recommend be a little more sensitive to replying to the list with a
'me too' response kind of deal. we can make the reply to field to be the
orginating person, not the list and it would probably be a pain in the ass
to reply to the list for everyone. as much as i love the virtual community
of the twins, i find it increasing difficult to participate because a lack
of common sense from certain people. much like real life, people tend to
gossip on and on and on and have nothing really meaningful to say. not to
say that it is wrong or anything, but the transition to the digital medium
means that everyone must see the babble. so, in a virtual community we
should strive to be a little more courteous to the whole community.
enough of my own babble...

You need to get the version that came out in China...not Japan. Faye Wong
is from Hong Kong and that is where most of her fanbase is located. I got
my copy via mailorder from Man's Trading Corporation in Chinatown in San
Francisco. It was about $18.

All the recent discussion regarding Faye Wong and her collaborations with
the Twins got me to thinking about other things she has covered that might
be of interest to some of you. I never knew it until recently, but Faye
also covered 'Here's Where The Story Ends' by The Sundays. It's very good
in my opinion and if you're a Sundays fan too then you should try and
track it down. She also covered 'Dreams' by the Cranberries on the same album
where she covered 'Bluebeard' and 'Know Who You Are...'. Anyone else know
of any other interesting covers by Faye?

Subject: Basic rules for CT list
Date: Tuesday, October 14, 1997 12:31 PM

I'm in the process of putting together a more suitable welcome letter for
the list than the very generic one that is presently being sent out.
There will be all the basic rules for unsubscribing from the list, posting to
the list, setting the digest mode, guidelines for the list, etc. I suggest
that everyone keep a copy of it as long as they are on the list. For now
I am going to post the basic rules about subscription, posting and digest
for anyone who needs them.

To unsubscribe from the list:
Send an email to: LISTSERV@PIG.CKS.COM
In the body(leave the subject blank) of your message type:
SIGNOFF COCTEAU-L
To post a message to the entire list:
Send your message to COCTEAU-L@PIG.CKS.COM
To enable the digest mode:
Send an email to: LISTSERV@PIG.CKS.COM
In the body(leave the subject blank) of your message type:
SET COCTEAU-L DIGEST
You must send this message from the email account which is subscribed to
the list and not a forwarded address or a reply-to address.
Any questions, comments or ideas? Feel free to contact me.
Thanks,
Stratton

Now people are just being silly. This list has been virtually *silent*
for the past two days! Oh, and for those who have wondered, I didn't completely and utterly
forget about the Twins fan database... I've been caught up in a whirlwind lately, and am taking the next 2 days off work to recover. In
the next 4 days I'll be updating it 'n everything. For those who don't know what I'm talking to, I maintain the (as
official as it gets) Cocteau Twins Searchable Fan Database, located at
http://www.radiks.net/mastaws/twinslist/ . All the info on it is there, and I'm happy to say that it's been doing
very well, even though I haven't updated it lately, and the list has
been down. So anyways, if you've submitted a bio in the last month and are starting
to think that it's broken, it's not. I've just been really really
swamped with other stuff. Please DO NOT RE-SUBMIT YOUR BIO!!!! That just
makes it worse for me when I update the database...Later all,
milk 'n kisses with iceblink luck,

Subject: My Truth (about this list)
Date: Thursday, October 16, 1997 8:26 AM

Friends,
I was going to refrain from commenting on more comments like this list
"contains drivel" and all the shouting with expletives some people are
doing to get off the list. Please think about the fact that you are
insulting the intelligence of folks who find value in this list. Even the
guacamole recipe thing is fine with me...it's nice that folks feel they
are among friends and can occassionally be silly here. (Of course if
individuals keep being off-topic you may want to take the time to email
them *privately* & gently request they focus a little more!)
This list has been very valuable to me and I've made good friends from
it. Not only have I learned of CT projects, but I've learned of other
artists CT fans like....many of us have traded sampler tapes as well and
been introduced to artists that way.
For me one of the best things to come out of this list was back two Junes
ago when CT toured the US...after totally blissing out seeing them on
their first U.S. gig, here in Atlanta... on impulse I flew up to D.C.
for their next show, on the weekend. I had previously connected with
several folks on this list (Angela, Derrick, Joel, etc.) & we all got
together for dinner and a beer & went on to the show together. As a woman
traveling alone, I was happy to have these new friends with me when the
show let out around 2 a.m. in a seedy section of D.C. I had folks to
"chaperone" me while I waited for a cab, then they got in their own cars
to set off for home. Home, interestingly, was not D.C. for any of our
group...folks drove up from Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia to
see Cocteau Twins...their fave band...and I flew up from Atlanta. I've
kept in touch with a few of these good people since that time, and I look
forward to seeing them next time CT comes around. (Also I let a CT fan
from out of town crash at my house after the Atlanta show.)
I for one just wish folks who made a mistake by subscribing and find it's
not what they wanted...I wish they would politely unsubscribe using the
instructions provided you via several emails. The rest of us know that
this list is important to us and will be more important than ever, as CT
has ventured into their own label/business enterprise. They won't have
major label support for marketing and touring as they did in the
past...and this list will be ever so important in getting the word out. I
imagine that Robin and Simon will be (as creative as they are) inventing
new ways to get their work to those who want to experience it. It will
be fun to see how it all evolves, and I for one am sticking with this
list so I can be along for the ride! It will be fun to think of ways we
*all* can use the internet (and other vehicles) to spread the word about
new Bella Union releases and CT on tour!
Peace 'n luv,
Carol

This is my first e-mail to the list although I have enjoyed reading
everyone's rants and raves. I am looking for any live recordings on CD and/or vinyl. I already have
Pearly, Pink, & White, Live in London, and the infamous Snow which took me
5 years to find and when I did it was by ice-blink luck.
Anyway, I am looking to ad to my collection and I am looking also for the
HOLV single with 3 tracks and the Chinese release of M&K with the Faye
Wong covers. In exchange I have a limited number of Cocteau Twins Photographs from a
recent concert. They are in color and glossy. They were taken by a
professional photographer and are excellent quality close-ups. I have 3
different sets of two 8x10, three different 5x7, two different 4x6, and
twenty 3x5. I am accepting trades first and if I have any left I will consider
selling. E-mail me here or write to Bryan Fritch, 2701 Tortoise Ln, Killeen, TX

Hi Joe,
To answer your questions :)
who are you ?
Alan, a UK Cocteaus fan of 12 years (gettin on a bit).
where are you ?
I refer the honourable gentleman to my earlier reply, but in detail;
At home, sitting in front of my monitor. Home = Birkenhead (Liverpool's
alter-ego across the Mersey - as per the song).
whatcha like ?
Does this mean, what do you like? or what are you like?
I like; life in general, but detail can get me down. My friends, my music
and
books, thats about it. what I'm like doesn't bear too much examination.
whatcha do ?
As little as possible, but to earn a crust - operations analyst.

   >>
I'm certainly interesting but not Gay. Sorry wrong way round - Gay but
not
interesting.
Like I said, have been listening ever since I heard Treasure in '85 from a
good friend. Never been disapointed in an album and never been to a bad
live
show. Not many (if any) bands you can say that about.
Anyway, gotto go.

yes, i did notice the cocteau-esque sound of that song-my girlfriend
pointed it out to me. to all those i offended by my comments about
alanis, i'm sorry i dont want to start any hard feelings- i was just
trying to make a point about the music industries lack of trust in the
public to be able to choose what is good for radio and what is not.
radio is not what it should be or had been. what you hear nowadays is not
disc jockeys but "on-air personalities", which usually translates into
trained monkeys with a B.A. and their only talent is sounding cheerful
while pushing all those buttons. d.j's used to be responsible for
discovering talent and the radio listeners were the ones who decided if
they liked that talent or not. Now record companies sponsor radio
stations. And executive play lists have replaced the free-thinking dj.
the record companies decide what single will be played off the album.
that is why you will only hear one or two songs of an album because they
are afraid that if just like the first single but not the rest, you wont
buy the album. sometimes if a record company feels as there isn't a
strong "hit" of the album before it's released they will make sure radio
stations play that bands last big hit instead of a new single(example:
did anyone notice an increase of air time for radioheads "creep" just
before and after "o.k. computer" came out?) you cant call in to a radio
station and request a song of an album that wasn't on a play list, which
is kinda stupid, why would i want to call in and request a song that is
being played twice an hour already?(but unfortunately people do anyway)
this radio stance of not taking chances is what has led to the sad state
of affairs and the likes of hootie and the blowchunks and collective no
soul.(if you are fans of either band, i'm not making fun of you and i
respect your right to like what you want, plus i dont think my comments
will affect their piles of money)-my point in all that rambling was this
seek out new music, go to clubs, read reviews, take a chance. dont buy
into a band or performer because radio tells you. it was around 1987, i
was in a tower music store. the store was packed but over the din of
people, i could hear this music that really impressed me, I asked the
clerk who it was and he replied: "the cocteau twins" - i bought the tape
right then and there. when I got home, i put it in and became a fan
forever(i didn't even know there was vocals on it because the store was
so loud i could only hear instruments...although i was to soon hear the
greatest instrument in the band, liz's voice!)
anyway sorry to ramble and sorry again if anyone takes offense to
my comments, i'm really don't want to start any "wars"-but i would like
to say if you are a fan of alanis, you should check out heather nova(her
live albums and eps-not her studio album "oyster"(it really doesn't
capture her spirit) are incredible as well as her life story. also
what's the news about a new album in nov.!(is it true? is that the
european release date?)

First, I would like to thank everyone who responded to my offer to trade
the
Cocteau Twins Photos for CDs and Vinyl I am looking for to ad to my
collection.
I do not blame any of you for not wanting to give up your CDs/Vinyl and I
appreciate your willingness to provide me cassette copies as a trade. The
photos I have are extra photos as I would not give up a part of my
collection either. I was simply wondering if anyone had extra copies
(CD/Vinyl) in your collection.
Amy, I wrote to Jack but I received a return e-mail saying that the
address
was bad. I believe the address I have is Jack@novomedia.com. If you have
a
better address then please let me know. I am willing to donate some of
the
pictures to Jack to display on the Web Site if he so desires. However, I
can not simply give you copies, Xerox or otherwise, of the pictures for
free
just like I do not believe you would send me a sample of your boots on
cassette for free so I can decide if I wanted to trade.
What I have decided to do is just sell them outright. $15 for the 8x10's,
$10 for the rest of the sizes except for the 3x5's which are for $5. I
will accept cash certified letter or money orders and will only take
orders
by post. Send request to: Bryan Fritch, 2701 Tortoise Ln, Killeen, TX,
76542-2640. First come, first serve until I run out of the extra photos.
Again these were taken by a professional photographer, color, glossy,
close-up of Liz in all of her glory.
I am giving you each a crack at this first and if not I will include them
in
my next ad in GOLDMINE.
Good luck and love always,
Bryan

What do you mean by "final" album. Please don't tell me that there is even
a remote possibility of the Twins no longer recording. Each year and a
half, or so, I start itching badly for that new disc and don't know what to
do if I get that itch and I can't "scratch" it.

Please elaborate.

that makes three. If we had a subject we could almost converse. I'll

(is that spelt write, it looks rong :)) The best Cocteau's concert you

The third time I saw the Cocteaus was at a Concert in Manchester as their
tour didn't extend to Liverpool that year (Four Calendar Cafe). It was in
a
place off Oxford road by the University called the Manchester Academy. It
was the first time I had ever been there (I would normally see a band in
Liverpool and wouldn't stray too far for anybody else). The atmos was
cool
from the start and the support was a band called Seefeel (unsigned at the
tme
but later on Warp). They were excellent and started the event off
marvellously. Then the Cocteaus came on and kicked in with Pur, my
favourite off the FCC album. I almost cried.
The rest of the set was perfect, not a single flaw I can remember. I was
supposed to go out with a couple of the guy's that went with me after the
concert but all I can recall is leaving on a high and then waking the next
morning. I might have been out on the town but no memories remain except
the
concert (bit too prissy that bit. No memories probably due to alcohol).
Anyway, thats that, email back with your best.

It's called 'Play God' and is on the album 'Live a Little Love a Lot'.
It's a great song, but she's just in the backing vocals...no main

okay..i'll spill some beans before everyone goes up in arms to the twins
and demand an answer.
let's just say that their intention was to release plenty of stuff on
bella
union, but certain circumstances has made it difficult for the group to
work in the studio on a regular basis. given that we control their own
destiny with their record label, they are not under contractual
obligations
to do a number of certain albums for x period of time. So, when the things
don't go smoothly for the group, we are not obligated by contract to work
through their problems as a group and crank out something. with that being
said, i believe (although i am merely stringing a bunch of drops of news
from close sources together) that they promised themselves to put out
another album, but the future will be very uncertain in regards to more
material as the cocteau twins.

Damn, I know that I am just like everyone else, eager for a new album to
be
released and wish that they could do it forever but let us face reality.
It's obvious they need a break from being a band and to concentrate on

Subject: SEMI-CT: Faye Wong's new Album
Date: Friday, October 24, 1997 1:36 AM
Hello Everyone!
I just got Faye Wong's new self-titled CD "Wong Fei"! Yay!
If you appreciate her sweet cocteau-reflective-ness like I do, read on.
May it help you to decide whether or not to drop the US$15-20 for it.
Check her website for a picture of the cover so you
know what to look for. That's where I also found Kay's translation of the
titles.
I don't know how widely it's availble. (I walked into the first cd shop I
saw in Chinatown, SF this afternoon and was shown right to it.)
IN GENERAL...
On the whole, it is a well put-together pop album.
More like "Crazy Thinking" than "Impatience", it has a few yucky ballads
but the rest is a tasty assortment of pop excercises.
Faye and her band try on many western styles -- including Western!
So, overall, it's derivitive in feeling but you just have to love Faye
(when she's not singing a ballad)!
There are two CT contributions. Robin and Simon recorded the music for
track 4, Entertainment Ground, for Faye (you can tell). Faye has also
rerecorded Rilkean Heart accoustically (track 8, Nostalgia).
NOW FOR EACH TRACK:
1. ANAESTHETIC
         sweet, cocteau-y dreamy guitar tune
nicely programmed drums come in mid-song
syrupy thick with rich backing vocals
2. YOU'RE HAPPY ( SO I'M HAPPY)
slow and countrified, but in an 80's college-pop sort of way
plain, soulful singing with no harmonies
         childlike torch song
3. BORED
much different than your usual Faye, she airs some angst in
this driven, Til Tuesday meets XTC pop-rock tune complete
           with distorted guitar!
         again -- so 80's !?
4. ENTERTAINMENT GROUND
oooh.. Robin and Simon have carved out a haunting
groove for Faye to play in. While at some points the
vocals could have been mixed in better, Faye rises
to the occasion with her beautiful voice.
5. MORTALS
the strings sound great then the rest of the song comes in... :(
         blech... ballad
6. I DON'T IT TO BE LIKE THIS TOO
         blech... ballad
7. MAKING A FUSS
simple and brisk, sunshiny pop song with mandolin
reminds me of the Sundays and 10,000 maniacs with a
           nanosecond of Joni Mitchell
8. NOSTALGIA
fairly straightforward accoustic rerecording of RILKEAN HEART
--okay, when I found out that
Faye had redone this song, I wondered if I might like it better
than CT's.. well.. a little more.
it's better that I can't understand the words
it's only guitar and voice, which is nice
i like her ending vocal riff better than Liz's!
9. PUT OUT FIRE
         blech... ballad
10. CLOUD'S EDGE
         ballad... not completely revolting
THAT"S ALL
Well, 4 ballads and 6 good pop tunes: pretty much what I expected.
I have only listened to it twice and I know for sure which tracks I'll
skip, but I don't know which will grow on me after many listenings.
Wondering why I sort of dismiss the ballads?
(of course, I mean that certain type of love song when I say "ballad" )
Well, I just don't like them, so I can't give an opinion on them.
I also have Faye's "Crazy Thinking" and "Impatience". They both have
Cocteau contributions. "Impatience" is a must-have!
Happy Fayentizing!

Ah yes, the bi-monthly "anyone tell me about Felt?" thread.

Robin Guthrie produced "Ignite the Seven Cannons" (from which this
single was taken, only track on which Liz sings) and "Ballad of the
Band" (another single, their first on Creation). Felt started off as
an indie guitar band (but always with a twist to the sound - no mere
Byrds copyists, they sounded more like a quiet Television), and
across the ten albums encompassed the lush grandiose "Primitive
Painters" (Robin's finest non-Cocteaus production), jazz ("Train
above the City, instrumental album), moog pop ("Space Blues"), and
all sorts of other wonderful music. Albums (all are fairly short):

Crumbling the Antiseptic Beauty
The Splendour of Fear
The Strange Idol's Pattern and Other Short Stories
(Cherry Red, all guitar/bass/drums with poetic lyrics)
Ignite the Seven Cannons
(Still Cherry Red, the addition of Martin Duffy on Hammond gave a
  more ornate sound)
Let the Snakes Crinkle their Heads to Death
(Moved to Creation, this is less than 20 minutes of strange and
  beautiful instrumentals in various styles)
Forever Breathes the Lonely Word
Poem of the River
(The second has some great instrumental work, as one of the
original guitarists had left when they signed to Creation they
  started to use extra musicians)
The Pictorial Jackson Review
(Simple songs on one side, two Martin Duffy piano instrumentals on
  the other)
Train Above the City
(Duffy and drummer Gary Ainge make a vibes/piano/drums jazz
instrumental album, the only contributions from singer/songwriter
  Lawrence are the song titles)
Me and a Monkey on the Moon
(El records, as Creation couldn't get it out quick enough to
fulfill Lawrence's "ten albums in ten years" plan, back to songs)

There are a couple of compilations called "Absolute Classic
Masterpieces" which cover the Cherry Red and Creation years, both
have a lot of non-album singles added to them (ten singles were
released alongside the ten albums, most of them weren't on any of the
albums).

There are a couple of Too Pure sites - American Records used to
handle Too Pure's US distribution but don't any more (didn't the
label collapse?) and recently a new site was set up at
www.toopure.com, but this has disappeared in the last week or two - a
pity, as it was well designed and informative (the American/Too Pure
site was one of those "brilliant when set up but seldom changed"
sites like the 4AD one).

YO!
Yeah, that is the one I was referring to, not the double CD Lifeforms.
Like you said, she is not credited with doing vocals on the album, but I
don't think her voice is on the track on the album. I went back and
listened to the ep again and I heard Liz's vocal treatments on the first
couple of tracks (Paths 1 and 2), but I had never heard them before. I
pretty much only pay attention to the fourth track (Path 4) because her
vocals stand out like I said throughout the entire track. I guess that
is probably because I owned this ep before I owned anything by the
Twins, so after I got into the Twins, I went back and listened to track
4 more because that was the only track in which the vocals stood out
that I could remember.
And about why they would have chosen her to do vocals, I would guess
that it is because none of their songs to my knowledge have actual
lyrics or singers (only samples), so to fit their music when they wanted
actual singers they decided to get singers who can do atmospheric things
with their voices without sounding dumb. Can you imagine Alanis
Morissette trying to do something like the vocals on Lifeforms? Hence
Toni Halliday's contribution to the track Cerebral on the LP Lifeforms
also.

Excerpt from interview with FSOL in Mondo 2000 #13:
         MONDO 2000
Why did you choose to work with Liz Fraser on the LIFEFORMS
         single?
         GARY COBAIN
She's one of the few vocalists that we find really evocative. Most
musicians are just so linear in their thought. Like Robert Fripp
--
we had to edit him to fuck on that radio show because he typically
         wanted to play across it.
The whole analogy with us to a band would be: if you've got a
stage
and you try to present it as a band you'd have like 2,000
musicians
each of whom came on, stood around for 99% of the gig and then
just raised, say, their flute and went "whoot!" Musicians would
just
feel too uncomfortable doing that. It might be brilliant in terms
of the
listening thing, it might really benefit from that flute only
coming in
once, but the flautist would feel so uncomfortable; they'd want to
perform. That's the musician's natural instinct, to have the flute
playing all the way through it. The guitarist wouldn't be able to
stop --
he'd be all over the track! He'd maybe pause for one bar. The drum
would go all the way through it. That whole method of
self-indulgent
musicianship is over for us. And Liz Fraser has that non-linear
look --
I thought so anyway, but ahe's really more scatty than that; it's
bizarre.
There was a really heavy editing process. Then we had all the
overlays, because what she does is she has a little cassette
recorder, she listens to it a couple of times giving prompt
points.
Then she completely wings it -- ad libs it -- and she gets this
kind of
mess and starts overlaying it to get structure, to try and
accentuate
certain bits. Co, it's really quite complicated. That day in
itself and
from there onwards was quite a mess, to actually get that track
into
         fruition.

i inferred the same thing, alan, because that's pretty much what the
post stated verbatim. can't remember who wrote it, though i suppose that's
irrelevant. this whole "sexual orientation/appreciation of the twins"
thread is certainly one of the more stubborn recurring topics on this list
-- thought we've laid this one to rest at least three or four times prior
to this current edition.
fact is, any attempt to correlate one's intuitive sensitivity to art with
sexual orientation is inevitably venturing into some pretty tangled
theoretical landscapes -- and this list isn't likely to hack out any
solutions over the course of a few posts.
several ankle surgeries ago i was a 230 lb college football player who
used to listen to a tape of "cherry-colored funk", metallica's "enter
sandman", and then "carolyn's fingers" over and over before each game to
get the juices flowing -- something about the heart-breaking precision
with which liz slides into her upper register on "carolyn's fingers" made
me want to disembowl somebody...other players would constantly ask me what
i was listening to, and after taking a listen say "that's pretty, but
it'd put me to sleep." had they heard them in another context, i'd hazard
a guess that several ex-teammates of mine might have been fairly receptive
to the twins -- and no, i'm not just talking about the kickers :)
no real point to this story, other than that i'm simply postponing yet
another philosophy paper...if anyone on this list can give plausible
elucidation of how we can have knowledge of propositions that exist
outside spaciotemporal boundaries without causal interaction, please send
me your take on it in roughly 1500 words (double-spaced w/pages numbered,
please). thanks. oh, yeah -- before midnight would be *most* helpful.
joel, who's lost about 50 lbs since his playing days and can actually wear
his holv t-shirt again -- yipeee!

Since CT-list is pretty quieted down, I'm forwarding a portion of a msg.
I got via the Pure/Impure list...referring to Robin, and thus sorta
CT-related/on-topic. Hope no one minds! I found it interesting, at least.
Peace,
Carol

MOONSHAKE was scuttled by Too Pure in 1995 due to the debt the band
had accrued. Then they signed a 3 album contract with C/Z Records,
but the label has now folded. The band signed only a 1 album deal
with WorldDom U.K. and that was to market *Dirty & Divine* in Europe.
Further, there are still no less than *ten* MOONSHAKE remixes collecting
dust in London and Seattle, respectively. In 1995, the following artists
remixed these tracks:
         LOOP GURU: "Right To Fly"
         SEEFEEL: "Right To Fly"
SCANNER: "We're Making War (Filter Block remix)"
Apparently, the tapes are buried somewhere in Paul Cox's desk at Too
Pure.
At least that is what he confessed last time I spoke with him. =)
Further,
seven more remixes of tracks from *Dirty & Divine* were commissioned by
C/Z Records in 1996:
         RICH COSTY: "Exotic Siren Song"
         LUCID: "The Taboo"
         ROBIN GUTHRIE: "Cranes"
         ROBERT HAMPSON: "Nothing But Time"
JOHN McENTIRE: "Cranes (Tortoise Shell Jungle mix)"
         TODD NICKOLAS: "Aqualisa" (instrumental)
There are actually 4 different ROBERT HAMPSON remixes but probably only
two
of them, including an instrumental, will be released. So, there are at
least
10 and perhaps more remixes that are being embargoed by Paul Cox and
Daniel
House.
Would anyone care to finance the purchase of these tracks? The *Dirty &
Divine*
remixes can be had for a mere $5,000. =)

as far as i know, Liz did not sing on "willow tree". she did sing on a
Veldt
song that appears on an unreleased, Robin-produced record... we can thank
Capitol for scrapping that one.

Hello fellow listies,
I know this doesn't pertain to all, but it's something that needs to be
addressed. I just want to remind some of you that when you leave town or
don't check your email for a while your mailbox with your Internet Service
Provider will fill up. When this happens, all messages sent to your box
will bounce back to where they originated from...in the case of messages
from this list, they will bounce back to me. If this happens, then I will
reset your options to disable mail delivery for your account. That means
you won't get any messages from the mailing list until you reset for mail
delivery. But if your mailbox is full, you won't know that your account
has been changed...you'll just think the list is down or no one is
posting.

The only reason I mention this is because I have had to disable about 20
different accounts in the past couple of weeks for this very reason.
Please take the time to turn off your own mail delivery if you're going to
be away. Not only is it courteous to the list, but it also allows you to
be remain in control of your account.
To disable mail delivery:
Send a message to: LISTSERV@PIG.CKS.COM
In the body of your message type: SET COCTEAU-L NOMAIL
To reset for mail delivery:
Send this message to the same address: SET COCTEAU-L MAIL
Any questions? Feel free to email me.
